While it seems that many riders didn't take timed training too seriously this morning, Aaron Gwin and Rachel Atherton have finished their runs noticeably faster than their closest competitors. For the Juniors it was Faustin Figaret of France and Manon Carpenter. Junior Timed Training times will be used for seeding purposes for the final, while for the Elite riders it's just a chance to see how fast they're actually going...

1. Aaron Gwin
2. Danny Hart +5.075

Troy was on it this morning. He seeded third just behind Loic Bruni of France. Sunday is going to be interesting.

Apparently I'm not allowed to use the word steep, so this track just happens to lose a lot of vertical in a very short distance.

Unfortunately, this was Cam Cole's ride this afternoon. The Giraffe went down hard just before timed runs. Heal up and we'll see you back next year, big guy.

photo
Cam Cole went down hard today and broke his arm in 2 places. Here he is the run before he went down, in exactly the same place he went down.

Steve Peat. Countless World Championships and he is still on top of his game. Uncle Steve lead out the whip train this morning with Brendawg, Greg, Ratboy and more in tow; pied piper anyone?

Rhys Willemse had some fun for the cameras this morning off of the lower jumps. Style gets you bonus points with the photographers.

Troy asked to have this photo run, so here it is.

Danny Hart got his mega whip on this afternoon in timed runs. The kid is a showman, and fast as hell. He has a big future ahead of him!

Mechanics are the busiest people on the World Cup. Jacy Shumilak spends a lot of time building wheels for Sam, Troy and Brendan. Yesterday, Troy had a digger and blew up the entire front end of his bike - Jacy was back to work in a hurry building wheels.

Anybody see the possibly carbon glory that Hart is pictured on? Trick!!!
  • 1 0
 Not a carbon glory mate.
  • 1 4
is it just me or does it say sam hill has the number 1 plate??
  • 7 0
Hill has the #1 plate because he's reigning champ. It's not the World Cup its the World CHAMPs, hence no qualifying
  • 1 0
 ahhh. ok thanks.
  • 1 0
 what happened to Gee?
  • 20 0
Fabien barel retires from dh after this race. He will then smash it in Enduro
  • 13 0
Fair enough some dont take it too serious but if Gwin is'nt taking it to serious either and is still ahead by 5 seconds I think we can see where the rainbow jersey is going this year lol.
  • 7 0
Danny Hart? Im doubting he was taking it serious looking at that whip!
  • 15 1
Proper want Danny Hart to win, just imagine it... Even though Gwin's probably the most likely, I definitely want Hart to get 1st...
  • 2 0
Fastest by 5 seconds is unbelievable. Stoked to see fairclough way up there too, with his new carbon sled!
  • 2 0
5 second gap between 1st and 2nd for pro mens and womens? that's intense. I would definitely like to see Hart break some hearts but Gwin is unstoppable this year! And it's also good to see Rachel back in her groove, I definitely think she can take the rainbow jersey!
  • 2 0
It would be sick if Rachel and Danny took the top spots.. SICK I tell you.
  • 15 0
 what happened to Gee?
  • 8 2
 fricken gwin. just amazing
  • 4 1
It's not even funny anymore... 5 seconds... Sam, you just have to don't touch your brakes and you can do it!!! Big Grin
  • 3 0
Gee DNF along with Cam Cole
  • 3 0
 Gee had a crash Frown
  • 13 0
How is Gee , was it a bad crash , will he race ...
  • 6 0
in quali herea few years ago, sam hill was 15 seconds up on people, im pretty sure theres more to come from sam
  • 13 1
i doubt sam is pushing during a timed training run with his shoulder the way it is.i'm looking for somthin big out of qualies.. and a win on race day!
  • 5 0
There are no qualies at World Champs, just a timed training run and Finals, everyone is pre-qualified.
  • 2 0
I doubt Sam is playing possum, he's probably not feeling 100% quit yet. He is human after all...
  • 1 0
in an interview it was stated that he is very sore, so why would he push it in timed practices.. i'm just optimistic for the guy i guess!
  • 3 0
It's the last race of the year, and the race everyone goes all or nothing on race day. Gwins expertise and training has well payed off. He isn't putting in more effort than the rest, he is just very comfortable on his bike and perhaps does not feel he needs to be as cautious like everyone else. Good luck to all the participants, I wish you a fun, safe and fast race. There are so many people I would enjoy winning this years title, but to get my torrets on . . . gofuckingsamhillassballs
  • 6 0
Young Guns will chase World Cup title and World Championships next season for sure..!!!!! Gwin might be in a roll but according to Barel World Champs "is all about being able to hold on the pressure. World Cup Skills and World Champ skills are different, even if it's the same person at the top, It's not the same skills that actually make you go ahead!! Cheers for Sam being back!! Fastest rider of the generation!!!
  • 6 1
I agree with you but not in this situation. Gwin just made history winning 5 WC races in a season I'm pretty sure he has the skills and can cope with the pressure to win worlds this year.
  • 8 0
I hope Brook MacDonald isn't going to use those tyres with his name spelt wrong on them!
  • 2 1
 hahaha thats awkward
  • 9 2
 com'on hill! defend your'e title!
  • 6 0
Some people can bend spoons with their mind, Evan Warner can obviously bend forks. Razz

"Apparently I'm not allowed to use the word steep, so this track just happens to lose a lot of vertical in a very short distance."
Hahahahahahahahahahahah well said! get outa here trolls! negative energy tisk tisk

Rach Atherton's timed run is reason enough to be proud of the UK.
Having missed Pietermaritzburg at the start of the season from injury, and STILL take third in the World Cup, and now a timed run 5.9 seconds ahead?! Damn girl, i hope you can keep that pace up!!
  • 8 4
i know gwin's my man but its kinda annoying seeing him at the top all the time. i hope it rains and see who's still on top come finals.
  • 1 0
It never gets old. But that being said. Aaron will have a HUGE bulls eye on his jersey next year. All these younger riders will be hunting his ass down. So Gwin can never rest. I dont think hes much of a drinker so beer wont make him out of shape in the off season like the last few world champs have been,
  • 3 0
its supposed to rain in champery on Sunday Smile
  • 1 0
i hope not! I'm going to be there.
  • 6 0
just like it was annoying watching nico take win after win....right?
  • 2 4
If something like him winning races is "annoying" to you, you might want to find a calmer sport to watch. Golf perhaps?
  • 9 3
get in there Danny!!!! you'd better beat that joker Gwin
  • 1 0
I'd love for Sam Hill to smoke everyone on race day... I'm not even a huge fan of his, but I just want to see the interview after the race...
Interviewer: "Did you feel the pressure to put in a good performance today after Gwin's destroyed everyone all season long...?"
Sam Hill: "No... Who's he...?!"
  • 1 0
It doesn't seem right to say riders "didn't take timed training too seriously", just because the riders turned in slower training runs. Besides Gwin normally being faster, serious athletes don't risk everything on mere training runs. Exhibit A; Cam's helicopter ride. ;-)
  • 2 0
Right serious athletes don't risk everything on mere training runs, which is why I said many riders didn't take timed training too seriously. A lot of the guys just put in a normal training run, they weren't out to do a race run during timed training. So the times from timed training don't really reflect how fast everyone is riding....
  • 1 0
 Yeah, Rachel!

Aside, I want Gwin to take it for a number of reasons, one of which is to see what next years riding will be all about. Racers responded to Sam Hill a wee while back, and racers are going to respond to Aaron (I think so, at any rate).

The coverage on sportsnetone is really really bad. Cool that its on but not Rob Warner.
  • 3 0
Gee on a DNF.. what the f*ck??? this is a shit year for him :/ feel sorry for the guy! but Gwin is killing it, fair play!
  • 2 0
its only training keep the faith
  • 1 0
Who the hell is Matthew Scholes? I always see his name cropping up in results, but I've never even seen a picture, or heard a single word said about him. He's clearly an amazing rider.
  • 3 0
I want Gwin's helmet so bad!.. I'll have some of his speed too.
  • 4 1
 comeback from hill? hopefully
  • 2 0
Qwin this year reminds me of Hill on 08, until he washed on the 2nd last corner of the last race to claim the champs
  • 3 0
haha I like the foreshadow here...
  • 1 0
sam hill will be like an animal on the final day and so is gwin... but we all know what sam hill can do.... good to see him again ...sad to see cam cole go heal up fast man
  • 3 0
Come on Danny, were rootn' for ya!
  • 2 0
Gwin is on a roll this Year!
  • 2 0
 What's up with Gee's DNF?
  • 3 0
Probably didn't do a timed training run, or possibly wandered off track for a look at something and didn't finish his run. Actually I heard that he crashed, but no details... I know he wasn't too stoked early this AM about having to get up before the sun for practice.
  • 1 0
he didnt do it, hit his head in a crash earlier and decided he didnt want to do it but he had to leave the start gate in order to compete in finals
  • 4 2
Mitch in 13th! Another American creepin up
  • 2 0
 3. Remi Therion +7.666 it's Thirion Wink

  • 1 0
9am Sunday on Sportsnet One in my guide. It's not live, it's 4 hours late lol.
  • 3 0
 come on danny
  • 1 0
Not even Gee or Greg in the top five!! Glad brendog is getting back to pace after the shit luck hes had....
  • 1 0
Nice to see Nick Beer, the man with the perfect name, is on the first page...
  • 1 0

POD for the pic of Rhys Willemse. one of the best picture i've seen
  • 2 0
"POD" for Rhys Willemse. I couldn't agree more. Great photo from a rider with great style.
  • 1 0
since when did troy ride in clips ??? and for champery!! when nearly everyone else is running flats.
  • 2 0
 What happened with Troy?
  • 1 15
flag nouser (Sep 2, 2011 at 10:53) (Below Threshold)
He crashed and broke his arm
  • 3 0
Troy was third in timed training runs... +2.35 back, but I'm sure he wasn't giving her any where near 100% He would have been 9th in the Elite men with his time.
  • 1 1
 HAHAH. nope..
  • 7 8
Gwin is a monster, even if Sam was 100%, I don't think he could touch Gwin this season. Gwin has just crushed the field this season!
  • 2 0
and he just came back from injury
  • 3 1
definitely! People think Sam is playing possum but he's just not 100% as you said. Gwin is making history this season!
  • 1 0
hence why he said even if sam was 100%
  • 2 0
Sam is just getting all his lines dialed. and then when it comes to racing he is just going to give it everything. thats the only way his shoulder will last the whole week.
  • 2 0
Gwin is no where near the rider sam usto be. Sure you cant say he is crap because lets face it he had a killer season, but that said i dont think we will ever see a rider ride like sam did back in Val di Sole world champs.
  • 2 0
No where near? The man just won 5 World Cups, Did Sam or anyone else do that?
  • 1 0
yeah i agree, i really like Sam but i don't think hell push to hard this race and even if he does Gwin is on fire.
  • 2 0
 Yeahhh Brendog!!!! Big Grin
  • 1 0
 Greg Minnaar. Where are you?
  • 1 0
Ikr? He's my pick this world champs tup Giddit!
