Josh Bryceland's flat pedal of choice, the Penthouse MK4 from UK brand Burgtec stays the same for 2014. At Interbike they were introducing 2 new colours, Neon Green for the enduro boys and Kashima Brown are added to the existing Black and Red. Dan Critchlow says they have now shortened the pins by 1mm to 4mm to improve grip. How would shorter pins be more grippy? Most Burgtec users now stand on the shallower sole of the Impact VXI shoe from 5:10, the long pins can contact the harder inner layer of the sole not allowing the shoe to fully sink on to the pedal. Using shorter pins the Stealth Rubber will contact the pedal body giving more feel and eliminating the chance of floating on top of the pins. Burgtec have a new 800mm Carbon DH bar coming soon, with 9 back and 5 degrees upsweep, 20mm rise priced around the $200 mark (GBP129.99) Also on the horizon is a narrow/wide chainring and this mudguard.

Ortlieb don't currently offer any mountain bike specific packs, but if you are looking for something fully waterproof then the Cor13, Airflex 11 and the Mountain X31 could be worth a look?

Interbike 2014

Lupine had this new Rotlicht (red light) on display. 160 lumens, 55g and attached via a simple rubber belt. It features a Brightness Sensor which reacts to ambient light, for example if a car's headlights appear behind you it turns up the brightness. But what really caught my attention was the built in accelerometer senses when you slow down and illuminates a brake light. Is this a first in the cycling industry? Lupine also have a range of Smartcore batteries. Pictured is the largest 13.2Ah, it has an LED Capacity Indicator and can be used to recharge anything using the USB connection. Great for keeping your SmartPhone alive on camping or adventure rides when you need to stay in constant contact with Facebook.

On the Chrome stand was this machine for hand making shoes along with over 2,700 hipsters. They rescued this machine and 80 others from a basement in a decommissioned military boot factory in Slovakia. All the machines have been refurbished and now live in Bangkok, 1 hour away from a natural rubber plantation where they source the material for some of their shoes including this new Peshka. Natural rubber is clean and sustainable and Chrome say it offers better durability and grip than an equivalent oil based rubber. The rubber forge impregnates the sole in to the fabric of the shoe using only pressure and heat, no adhesives necessary. The downside of this means it takes 15 minutes to make each shoe opposed to 5 for conventional methods, but there can be no de-lamination and the pattern on every sole is unique.

For anybody who has seen inside my camper van, you will know I have a Leopard Print fetish.

Interbike 2014
The New York Fahgettaboudit weighs a whopping 2kg and costs $110, but offers a no quibble theft guarantee up to $4500, the highest in existence. Designed to be the ultimate lock in the Big Apple where they have the highest bike theft rate in the States and the only company to offer such a guarantee in the city. Due to its size you might also want a cable to protect your wheels or Kryptonite's new wheel nuts. These utilise an internal pin which makes it impossible to undo the wheel unless you can flip the bike upside down then the pin will drop allowing you to undo them.

Interbike 2014
Wellgo has a giant range of pedals. The 201g B252 (bottom right) is one of the lightest around and is extruded Magnesium with a Ti axle, only $97.
The B185 in (bottom left) comes in at 320g for $50

Interbike 2014

Rotec makes a comeback? Owner Sully says he has been off the ball for the last few years due to real life commitments, but now wants to devote more of his time to resuscitate his Rotec baby. They have been testing an old frame with some prototype dropouts, putting the derailleur in an improved position, and to fit 27.5" wheels. The CAD drawing is of the fully revised RL9 Mk5 which will be in production for 2015. Lawwill Lives!

Interbike 2014

OGIO has a new range of hydration packs aimed at the MTB market in a variety of sizes and styles. Expect the usual OGIO quality and attention to detail.

Interbike 2014

IMBA were showing off their trail building skills.

Interbike 2014

The Carbonator is an all new offering from American Classic. Not quite as big as their Wide Lightning monsters, but they're not shy with a 26mm internal rim width. No skimping on spokes with a full complement of 32, Bead Barb technology to prevent burping and that matte carbon finish. 1595g for medium size and 1676g for a man sized pair. Available in most hubs sizes and drivers for $1799.

Interbike 2014

Details on this monster from MagicShine were few and far between due to a language barrier. But I deduced that it had a full 4000 measured Lumens, digital display with temperature, battery life and compass. Is there anything more powerful on the market?

Interbike 2014
I've been a fan of Supercross BMX products since I was a kid and was stoked to meet the man behind it all. He says they are only making a handful of MTB frames since the UCI finished off 4x, but keep making them for the die-hard fans. This Shine features Easton ULR 7005 tubes, vertical adjustable dropouts and 3 sizes. Colours are Pearl White shown, Gloss Black, Magic Yellow, Cyan Blue or Gun Metal Grey with Custom Anodized and Powdercoat options available. $599.99

Interbike 2014

Good news for English speaking BOS owners who may have struggled against a language barrier with the French company in the past. Ilan from Canada has recently moved to the BOS HQ near Toulouse and can now help you with all your servicing and warranty needs.

I have been running Wellgo pedals for a while now, both on my DH bike and AM bike. I love them, and it only cost me $40 per set.

Surely this one man can't be the answer to all the thousands of disgruntalled BOS owners out there?

Well at the show I had a load of questions and Ilan was pretty helpful and polite!

The Rotec cad drawing looks simply amazing and good to see Sully back in the limelight where he belongs. One of the nicest people in the bike industry who would bend over backwards to help you. The older RL9 was simply an amazing working bike and with all the new updates it will be an incredible bike. Get me on the waiting list !

I just saw a Rotec today at Stevens Pass...it's the first one I've seen in years! I used to want one a number of years back, so I'm excited to see how it all turns out.
  • 3 0
That was me at Stevens today ! on the blue Rotec ? Yeah the trusty old steed, she works so good! Can't wait for a new one, Sully!!!

nice stuff from wellgo to fair price!!!

So, this is my first season with pink bike, is it pretty dead until the season starts next year? I only ask because inter bike has been the only thing on here with the random post world champ vid/article.
  • 6 0
It definitely starts slowing down late fall/winter
  • 4 0
yeah, but pinkbike usually still manages to keep us rather content and from going to moredirt.com.
  • 16 4
About this time trolls start to come back to their caverns and go on-line. Behold!
  • 6 8
Ummm, no. Yes, it's always like this. Advertising shit so that you buy it, hence keeping the bike companies enough in the green to throw some dollars at PinkBike. Which PB in turn uses to take more advertising photos of shit. And occasionally something to do with riding outside. Actually, the stuff they shoot outside is gold. So you should definitely buy some shit.
  • 2 0
Perhaps someone will introduce another wheel size - that will get people riled up for sure!
  • 7 1
Hillatoppa - can you then please explain me why do you open that site? What you described is not a nice site. Why are you logging into such terrible place and open articles that you so strongly believe are meant to make you buy new stuff. Also, you are coming from the richest country on Earth, which is ironic hahaha Big Grin
  • 2 0
Behold!!! haha Waki, it's a simple truth that dollars make the world go round, even Pinkbike needs the green to keep the wheels turning and that was the point of my comment. Don't get me wrong, PB's 'outside' stuff I mentioned can be truly awesome... riding photos, coverage of events, races, rampage, trail building, interviews, , etc, etc. But the pinkbike vibe is drowning in the commercialized focus on interbike, eurobike, outdoor indoor demo and the TONS of sales-pitch type articles and photos (sure, it's the season for cheesy men in suits/women in body paint), but seen as a whole that's just my thoughts. Call me old school, but I liked it when there was a clearer line between the real content and the advertising. And for all you know I could be living out of a trailer, riding bikes all day and washing dishes all night to scrape up the cash to head to Whistler next summer Wink

 Day 12
I'm worried.... I still haven't heard from BOS after contacting them through their website. I can only assume that either only the guy above works at BOS or two people work at BOS.... the guy above who is at Interbike and another person who must have tripped and fallen at the factory and clearly can't get to the phone (or computer) to call for help. Can someone local pop in and check to make sure he is ok? Alternatively when you get back to France IIan can you maybe have a look at my email.
  • 7 2
The Rotec looks amazing, and did a company actually make a decent looking shoe? I am gobsmacked!!!
  • 3 1
Yeah it's always been a great looking bike , not so sure on the shoes tho , but still a step in the right direction.
  • 3 0
Still riding my original rl9 Rotec is awesome and can't wait for the new frame. Gonna ride mine till the new one arrives.
  • 1 0
Anyone want my rotec? It's up for grabs!

Props to Wellgo for making a great pedal at a great price
  • 5 0
 Rotec!!!
  • 5 1
A machine for hand-making shoes? Genius!
  • 1 0
 (not a hipster)

I have a pair of those shoes. They are different from most shoes where there's some super gluey glue bonding the tread part to the upper - these literally have the rubber from the sole impregnating the fabric of the upper. There's no chance of delamination. The shoes are comfortable and a good value for cruising around. The rubber however is not real sticky and there's 0% chance I would wear these on any kind of bike ride.

The brake lite for commuter bikes is a good idea. You could have a contact switch on the brake lever but that requires too many wires.
  • 5 0
I had a brake light on a bike in the early 90s. On a bike with normal cantis (before v-brakes) the light bolted to the frame and when the brake was pulled an attached bar made contact and closed the circuit turning the light on. It was very simple and worked ok but as no-one had seen brake lights on a bike before, people just saw it as a dodgy rear light
  • 1 0
If you put a 160 lumen brake light on....trust me the cars would notice....Mind you they would not know what it is.
  • 1 0
Good to see company's trying new ideas in this area though. I was run over when breaking in the dark once and the case driver who hit me said he hasn't realized I was braking.....no excuse but it might have helped.
  • 1 0
Not sure the problem with bos in the uk was language barriers, more a stable uk dealer who could sort warranty issues?

But nice none the less
  • 9 0
BOS now have an English speaker in house, so they can tell you, the bike shop and the importer to piss off without any need of translation, globalisation in action!
  • 1 2
Marsh guard is the best stiffer plastic than tge flimsy MN. Sure Marshy made his first. However copying is the highest form of flattery. Burgtec older colors better esp the old urban camo, my MK2s still like new.. Penthouse best name and flat pedal ever made.
  • 8 1
Jason Marsh copied the mucky nutz bender fender
  • 4 0
 ROTEC!!!!! Yeah Sully
  • 2 0
Must say that will be a damn nice bike. Lawwill's frame designs were always killer, so good to see one again! Finally something different than the usual variations of single pivots, VPP's, Horst links, and split pivots!
  • 1 0
Let's hope that the new frames are as killer as Sully is!!!
  • 3 0
Put that lock on Superman's bike please !
  • 6 0
Back in the day I asked some bloke at a high-end bike shop if I could lock up a Clark Kent frame with a Kryptonite lock. He didn't get it, while my friend was laughingSmile
  • 1 0
Supercross rule!!! They could make one hell of AM hardtail, or even XC bike if they wanted to, I hope they would... 'cuz I'd be all over that!
  • 1 0
I loved my Supercross bike when I still rode BMX 8 years ago. Sadly I grew a lot taller in recent years and I don't think my spine is gonna like the crunched up position of a BMX bike so which is why I switched to 4X and that Supercross 4X frame looked mint
  • 3 0
Can't wait to see and ride the new Rotec. Long time coming Sully!!!
  • 1 1
What is the possibility that anyone reading this article would know or care about the author's leopard print fetish and what is inside his camper? Is this guy Wilt Chamberlin or something?
  • 1 0
Beware of false claims. The Kryptonite NY lock insurance is void if you live in NYC. The lock does not insure your bike in NYC.
  • 1 0
They all look ugly and cheap, the only decent looking mudguard was the one Marzocchi was selling as an accessory for their Z1 and Z150 forks.
  • 2 0
Why don't more pedals have textured bodies?
  • 3 2
You mean Mucky Nutz copying something you could make from a n appropriate plastic container.
  • 1 0
I like to see that there are more shades of anode judging by the colours of the pedals.
  • 1 0
Supercross! RIDE bmx mags second best bike review ever with Dave Young and an epic hangup. Look it up!
  • 1 0
Damn kids growing up! I miss my playmobil dirtjumps and popstick ladder bridges.
  • 1 0
 "no quibble theft guarantee"

Except that you have to provide pieces of the lock to show that it was stolen due to the lock.
  • 1 0
Wow... those Burgtec pedals, Ortlieb bags and Rotec frame looks great!
  • 1 0
Ortlieb bags are the shit. I love my velocity, but it's pretty much just a dry bag with straps on it. Kinda wish I'd bought one of the bags shown here, they look awesome!
  • 1 0
 They should have patented....
  • 1 0
I wonder if a magnet would lift the pin in those Kryptonite wheel nuts...
  • 2 1
you know what pedals are grippy??

...clipped in.
  • 1 1
hahaha that's what I'm constantly thinking when I look at all the expensive flats out there
  • 1 0
All pedals are grippy when you have a 5.10 shoe on. I run my flats with pins sticking out only 2mm. Anything longer coped with 5.10s makes me question sense of using flat pedals as you cannot move your foot at all and you will have it more "tied up" than shittiest clip-in pedal
  • 1 0
@waki agreed, if you get a decent shoe pretty much anything with real pins is great. If I wanted to be locked in bad enough to have those terrifying looking pins, I'd ride clipless. It's no harder to get out of at that point, and at least a SPD wont tear your shins to shit if you mess up.
  • 1 0
That was a huge selling point to my wife, who felt sketchy in hiking shoes on crappy flats and moved to SpDs which made her feel sketchy in a different way. I told her that I will buy her 510s and flats with very short pins so she won't have to worry about reaping her shins.
  • 1 0
 Ilan, what the heck???
  • 2 4
Burgtec, way to completely copy Marshguard!
  • 10 1
You mean Marshguard completely copy Mucky Nutz?
  • 2 0
I dont really care who copies who, MarshGuard looks the best Razz
  • 1 3
The Mucky Nutz suck balls tho.
  • 6 0
You guys realize people were using plastic plates and such way back in the day to do the same thing right?
  • 10 1
 All you guys suck balls
  • 1 0
They all look ugly and cheap, the only decent looking mudguard was the one Marzocchi was selling as an accessory for their Z1 and Z150 forks.
