The much-anticipated Yeti AS-R 7 has reached completion. As many of you know, we showed a number of iterations over the last year with a single-sided carbon chain stay and direct axle pivot. It was well received and got rave reviews. In the end though, we felt it didn’t live up to our performance standards and we have made one final design change – we eliminated the single-sided carbon chain stay and replaced the rear end with a traditional two-sided alloy rear, similar to our 4X bike. Our re-design is more conventional, but the performance is pure Yeti.

 My personal fave is the new fourcross and 303 R dh.

 well when i went to the yeti demo last week..the guy said the 303r dh with that build is around 4300..so its not that bad..he also said its more of a dh bike thats more of like a toy than it is than a race bike..like a bike you would actually enjoy..and i did enjoy it when i demo'ed it..

 holy crap!! from perfect designed rear wheel suspension to only kind of sigle pivot system of suspension Frown Im sad for the big change. anyway it can work nicely like old 303. Id rather buy old classic 303DH than this singlepivot 303R DH

 303R isn't replacing the 303 dude, it's a lighter more nimble version of the 303 which you can still buy...

 All they did was take the simplicity out of a single pivot, I can't see the rail doing that much. Maybe a slight increase in efficiency...but for that you give up weight, cost, and simplicity of design. Hardly seems worth it. And seriously, the last thing I want is something else on my bike to maintain or repair. In the FAQ's one of the reason they give for the rail is that it will help your shock last longer because it doesn't rotate as much....pretty lame stretch.

 I imagine it would also offer stiffer rear end than a standard single pivot.

 the rail and car was there to controll the rate and rebound of the shock as well as keep it from wearing out. If you have ever ridden one you would understand why it worked better.

 the 303R is not replacing the original designed 303. the original 303 has a more complicated linkage using the rails to control the wheel path. the 303R only uses the rail to control the shock rate (the linkage on the 303R is nothing more than a single pivot design). similar, but different.

 I went and rode the 303r at a Demo day. That bike is phenominal! If you want a real quality race bike, at a reasonable price, this is the way to go. So nimble.... Love it.

 Well, I pesonally am sad that they got rid of the "track and car" suspension that worked so amazingly well previously. and then downgraded all the way to single pivot. I mean, sure its less parts to wear out, and the single has been proven to work well, but honestly it can't be as good as before.
I am also sad that almost every bike maker is trying to look like a Norco. even Yeti now has a hint of Norco in it. Frown

 Downgraded? it's a new bike in the line up, you can still buy the 303 for 2009, infact they simplified the pivots for this year with the 303.

 it still has the track and car setup.

 well it's not truely the same track and car because the other one has the track that can pivot with the shock. that on is stationary and only serves to keep the shock in one place. donsent seem too useful.
