Big chainsaw with a long bar.

i cant seem to get a straight cut with my 18. maybe i needa larger saw. are you using a chain specifically for ripping?

I use a standard chisel tooth chain filed to 10 deg. Your problem is probably a combination of a short bar and a lack of power. The short bar is allowing the cut to wander and the lack of power is is allowing more time for the cut to wander. Having a sharp chain, and properly oiled bar as well as a dressed bar are all things that will help significantly.
I use a froe cause all I use is ceder, i couldnt afford the gas if i ran my saw all the time, just went up $1.50 per lt this morn lol
