i'm guessing it has a single speed hub.. so you'd have to see what the hub spacing is.. if it's the standard 135mm then you can just get a new hub relace the wheel and get all the stuff that goes along with gears.. just go ask a trek dealer.. they sould be able to figure it out for you if they are worth anything at all.. oh one problem might be it doesn't seem to have a der hanger on it.. that could be a problem.. but the a good trek dealer should be able to figure that out.

does that mean that if i took my rear wheel and put it on that bike it would work because it has a wider singlespeed hub... another question, could it just be a special frame made for single speed wheels

yes you can make it a multi-speed. look at surly bikes for a nice 29inch wheel bike.

brandyn u tell me i have a bad taste of bikes but you wouldent take a 10,000 dollar freeride bike that was signed and used by a pro if you thought it was ugly so dont tell me who has bad bike taste
