I can't tell what you mean by it fitting on a ball hitch if you remove the ball? Do you mean it's just a standard 1" or 1.125" square receiver?

So a tow ball goes on the adapter, the adapter goes in the hitch right? Take the ball off the adapter, and this clamps on the adapter right where the ball would be. Makes sense? If you are interested in buying it I'll give you a good local deal, and can explain the system better.
