I bought a new retina, but ended up returning it and then bought the last model mbp 17" 2.5Ghz i7, 16GB ram, 2x 1 TB ssd. I didn't really like the retina as it has such a yellow tint compared to the nice large white 17" display.
Thanks Jim. Yeah I was aware of that. I had for 3 years a late 15" 2011 that had no issues, and this one that I just bought off ebay had a new logic board/gpu replaced 4 months ago so I hope all will also be fine. It seems also in that article it mentions that it's the early 2011 models with the 6750 card that are having issues. The late 2011 have a different 6770 gpu which makes me happy.
@radek I have used a maxed-out Retina MBP for 2 years now and still love it! The high resolution for photo editing is f'ing amazing! And it's processing power is actually competitive with my Mac Pros at work (mostly because of SSD), killer laptop! About the yellow look, I haven't noticed this, but you could probably fix that by calibrating the display to a cooler white-point in the display preferences. The only issue I have had personally is a temporary burn-in when something is on screen for a while, but it always goes away after a couple minutes...
