Just picked up a 1975 Marshall 100 watt JMP. It's been modded with an extra gain stage. push/pull gain boost and a depth knob for added warmth. It has 6550 tubes as well. God damn does this beast sound amazing!!!

Always loved that color Paul! One I never had sadly. But hell, I've sold everything I've ever had so I guess it wouldn't matter anyway! I do however own a cheap SG that I bought several years ago after getting reacquainted with an old bandmate, to do some jamming. I'm assuming this 1976 SG is "The One" you told me about. That's badass!

Yeah, it's pretty nice in real life. It's got the right amount of nicks and scratches and man does she play nice too. And yes, that is the SG. It's an odd one, it has a tapered neck, it feels smaller at the top and gets wider as you work your way up the fret board. Also, it's a mahogany finger board, not a rosewood. This had gotta be my 8th SG that I've owned and I've never played one like it.

Interesting. I'm not an SG guy so I wouldn't have any experience to share. I actually never cared for the body style, or how thin and lightweight they were. But as I got older they grew on me...So much history and many great players, and it seems like it fits any genre of music very well. Still, Les Paul's are my "Spirit Animal" as my daughter would say!! Cheers spence!

Apples & oranges my friend! That Paul has a warmth to her that no other guitar has. Were as the SG screams like a Salem witch on a steak! I will say though that this JMP is this photo is something special!!!!!

I hear ya buddy. I dig my SG now! It's one of those "faded series" nothing special, but it does have a 500T humbucker in the bridge that is smoking hot! I love those old Marshall heads, they are special. I know of that mod adding a master volume (usually on the back side) that would make those older plexis absolutely kill!! I've been out of the loop for over 20 years, but man it was my life between 16 - 26 years old....

That's a great guitar! Especially wihh that pickup!

This JMP already has a master volume, whereas my plexi doesn't. The Plexi is bone stock, a screamin demon! It's either loud or louder! Pure, nonsense straightforward Rock N' Roll tone! This JMP on the other hand is one of a kind (get ready for my nerd to come out) It has an extra pre-amp tube in it and I can pull the master volume knob to engage the extra gain stage which gives it a boost. It also has 6550 tubes in it, as apposed to EL34's. The 6550 is a bigger tube, which gives it a warmer, deeper tone. The depth knob in the back allows me to add a little more bottom end to the tone without sounding too muddy. What a nerd!

@spencer666 Nice. You have a lot of knowledge with guitar amps, being a bass player. Guessing you play both? Let's geek out together shall we...I have never owned a Plexi sadly, but I played through Damon's (that I spoke of) and it was the loudest amp i ever played through by far...I have owned an 80's JCM 800 100w, JMP 50, Mesa Boogie Mk IV, Silver Jubilee series Marshall 25/50 anniversary. And my last half stack was a white Anniversary series Marshall JCM 800 100watt. Wanted a Mesa Dual Rectifier back in the late 90's so bad I would have done many regrettable things... I will say my sons little Tiny Terror (or maybe it's the Dual Terror, can't remember) but that little Orange is badass. I remember having one of my Marshall heads that took the 6550's (maybe the white one) revalved to accept EL 34 tubes to make it push harder and breakup earlier causing a nice growl to it!! Like I said it's been a long time ago. I was in love with Adam Jones' tone from Tool in the Undertow days!!

I've been a gear nerd for years! Can't play worth a damn though! I do play bass, it's my primary instrument. I started on guitar but switched to bass by necessity. I was starting a new band, it was with my friend who was killed, we couldn't find a bass player so I said fuck it, I'll play. Turned out I was a way better bass player then I ever was or will be at guitar. Your past gear list is a wet dream!!! Especially the Jubilee. I can only imagine how good the 800 with 6550's sounded!! Mesa Boogie is from my hometown, Petaluma Ca. That's where I grew up. Gear has come and gone in my life too, as I'm sure it always will. Those Orange amps are real nice! They scream, and are surprisingly loud for having so little power.

Feck yeah. That's some tasty shit! Is that Les Paul Burgundy, or do my eyes deceive me? Sweet nonetheless, you've got great taste my man!

Shit yeah! She roars like a lion in heat! And yes, a 1974 Burgundy Custom. And the SG is a 1976.
