TORCA has been working with the Rec Sites and Trails BC office (provincial crown land managers) with the goal of sanctioning trails to allow future legal trail improvements and to protect the trail network. Through this process, many wooden features were found to be decaying and dangerous, and will be removed for safety.

Cities and Trails BC saw them as a liability as many structures were rotted and unsafe. As mountain biking grows and becomes more popular there is more awareness of legal liabilities and environmental impact of bad building practices. Many of the older trials although classic were not built well and they see the negative impact it has had to some areas. This is the cities, provinces and First Nations land and we have to all keep that in mind. They want communication, well thought out trail plans that minimize environmental impact and trails built to whistler standards. The future of biking in the tri cities is looking good. What upsets them is people going onto land that's not theirs, not telling anyone and building trials illegally. Like most things in life working together and communication is key. Being a rebal and saying FU to the "man" and building ilegally will jot fair well for the future of biking nor the relationships with land managers. It's reality and we need to deal with it. Working together opens up funding and grants and together we can continue to build an amazing trial network in the Tri cities.

Thanks for the explanation, do you know what other trails were taken down?

@Anthony1705: No trails removed, just rotten/dangerous features. So far, just the Dentist as it was the highest liability.

Lame. Might just be someone decided they were no longer "safe". Unfortunately there has been too many cases of someone thinking their idea of the forest experience should be the only one. Hopefully it's a legitimate case of the former. We need more fresh woodwork IMO. Only one way it happens...

Basically people are trying to get some eagle trails sanctioned so the old ones arent build to standards. As soon as you try and make stuff legal it loses all the fun.

I was told it was a forestry woman who did it, and it will continue on other trails.
