Is there any technical information on how this image was captured? Looks like an underexposed image to create the black background with the perfect use of a flash to bring out the rider. The image alone is amazing, but when I try to imagine setting up this kind of shot in race-conditions with a telephoto lens I am blown away. Would love to hear more about what went into making this shot.

So this was taken as the riders popped out from the depths of a super dense and dark pine plantation into the open. Under exposing the shot by around 3 stops if I remember rightly gave the rich shadows and highlights, no flash!
