Your totally all correct, it is a shitty brake as everyone has tried them out and has factual real world experience with them just by merely looking at a picture.
Those hard workers at Hayes should of made a new brake identical to avid, hope etc just to keep the fan boys visually happy.
Leavers are meant to be be laterally weak to protect the mc body on any brake system. Leaveres are also cheaper to replace than a master cylinder.
