because it has so much travel the chain growth will be so much under compression it would tear off the rear mech(i think) so they use a system like this to prevent chain growth

that driving box thing doesn't make sense , it still uses a mech. so all of those sprockets are pretty useless... the only thing this is good for is if you want a bunch of extra friction on your drive train.

its not a gearbox, its to keep the chain straight when the suspension compresses or along those lines i believe. A lot of bikes like this have them. Look at the purgatory bikes.

shimano airlines? no its not , the tank is the remote resivoir for the rear shock
