Discs have very little holding power. If you watch a trials video, think about how much braking power they would need for the wheel to not slip. That's why Discs don't work...

Likewise, There's more holding leverage at the rim. It's like having a bigger disc makes the disc brake work better, well, the brake is at the outmost part of the wheel...best leverage.

Likewise, a discs can be bent quite easily when used for trials...one messed up sidehop and the rotor bends in half...

but some people swear by discs for trials. There are some trials specific disc brakes, but you'd never catch me using them. lol

Yeah, Echo pads are pretty rough. They're okay on a smooth DRY rim with some tar, but nothing special at all...grind + rock pads is way better in all conditions.
