LOL awesome but dude what if u crash u could kill your kid
yea i agree. what he does with his kid is kinda risky, but look at this dude's album, he does some pro stuff, so how on earth would he crash on such a little jump.
he might have brain damage when he gets older from the bumps.... but at least hes gonna love biking... look how happy he is!!!
C'mon, its not seriously like the guys gonna be hitting 20ft doubles with the kid on board- think most giving neg' props jest got the wrong end of the stick. As for jolting his head... surely the dad+suspension will be absorbing the hits, very little will transfer to the baby. Even in the event of a crash - the dad would react so as to not let the kid get injured, at any cost to himself (awkward landing). Love it! +
It is obvious how few of you actually have children. I'll get flamed for this, but while the picture elicits a smile, if it is not photoshopped, I'd say it represents criminal negligence.
Everyone tha some day soon this will be pod. the only thing is like what if you fall and crush the little dude. either way this photo is pricless

i could see where the photoshop argument would come into play, but that baby is a charger! no photoshop there. pod!
its a small jump.. if i fall.. he's behind me.. which means i cop the impact..
again though.. its a very small jump, his mother took that pic btw.
i don't have time to use photoshop.. i barely know how to use it.. and if i did, i'd be
building my website up.

And if you go over the handlebars? and land on your back? if you fall and roll? If you wanna kill your kid then fair do's, if not then...

yeah.. in the other pictures, he is jumping with the baby without a helmet.. most stupid and irresposible thing I've ever seen with a kid..
Ok, I read a lot of comments giving props and then some negative ones. I think the spirit of this photo is awesome and I 100 percent support this. For all those "what if nay sayers" think about it like this. What if you are just riding your bike by yourself and crash, fall off and break your neck or die (it happens all the time).....hmm that's bad parenting, so maybe you shouldn't bike if you are a parent? What if your are jogging with a stroller, it's more risky because every time you are out in the streets you are more likely to die. (people get killed by cats everyday)
It's all a silly argument. You have to take precautions, know your skill and limits, and enjoy life by taking risks. That's how your grow, evolve, and it's what makes us human.

I agree with your comments to a degree.....however the difference is his baby doesn't have a choice in the matter! We all have a choice on what we do and if we get hurt doing it then thats our responsibility....a baby is not capable of saying "NO....I don't want to do that I might get hurt!" so there for it is irresponsible.
Don't get me wrong this photo made me smile but the reality is that if he were to crash his baby isn't gonna take it like we would there is a very high possibility it could die.
Great picture but please don't encourage this sort of thing, Especially without a lid.
Peace!

Please tell me thats a typo . . .
Id love to see headlines for that one. Couple brutally mauled by tabby.
Also, i full respect the father/boyfriend for doing this, what a great way to bring your kids out into the world.

lol - ok that's a typo....I meant cars
I think a baby never has a say in anything...it's all up to the parents. To further add to my point.....do I pay for a baby sitter every time I need to go to the store even for 30 miutes, or do I put the baby in a baby seat and drive my car to the store. Of course the safer thing is to get a baby sitter. Driving cars is dangerous and it would be very irresponsible to take your baby anywhere in a car unless you absolutely needed.
Stat from government website: 3200 car accident deaths EVERYDAY world wide.

So I'm not a dad. I have no idea how old a kid is judging by it's size. I have been informed that the kid is only 8 months old, I assumed it was a few years old. A kid that young is still developing and just the motion that riding and never mind jumping, can be placed on a kids brain and neck is damaging. This means that it is really unsafe to do this to a kid this young. However great the notion of a dad taking his kid riding is, and as much I want to be cavalier about support of this, the fact is that if the kid is only 8 months old, just the motion of riding can harm him. So this is something that should not be done.
The great part about having all these opinions and conversation is that we can all learn something. Even I have changed my view on the subject not only due to a fact of the kids age, but also due to the general information from those that are more experienced in this matter. The good that I think and hope that comes from this POD is that we all will think twice, and maybe do some research before we embark on putting a young rider in a possible dangerous situation. I know in the years to come I'll think to this POD and the concerns of parents out there.

seriously... how many parents out there do things like smoke cigarettes or drugs around their kids? Drink and drive with their kids in the car? Leave kids in cars on hot days? This is kinda the same thing... it seems harmless until shit hits the fan. How's Dad gonna feel when the "I didn't think that would happen" happens?
My dad took my cross country skiing with a similar setup. I got motion sick and puked down his neck XD
But I lived to tell about it. They took me backpacking all the time when I was an infant as well.

it looks strange for me, imagine when the bikes touches the ground, and the baby is probably 3-4 years old. Can a child of that age be aware of the necessity to suppress the stroke?....And then see what happens to the child's head.... I'm not saying that it is photoshopped, I'm just saying that it is a bit irresponsible...
um, i got 2ft of air on a table top.. how much whip lash can he get from a smooth landing with 7" of travel in the front and 6 in the back, and a complete soakup with my knees?
i can feel his head move when i land .. its a soft touch on my back.
yeah yeah yeah i'm a shitty father, just don't you go drinking and driving.. or making any mistakes in your life.. or taking any risks.. what if i dropped him while i was holding him?
how many bike stacks with babys are there, to babies dropped with head injuries? blah blah blah, just enjoy the picture.

Agreed bro. Who the hell do these ppl think they are judging what kind of father u are. I think that its a great way to spend time with your child. Right now I am in Iraq and i wont even be able to LOOK at my son for at least 15 months. As long as ur are not hurting the kid, and obviously he is having a blast; I say do it 100%
I with ya. My guess is this kid is not going to grow up playing video games and be scared to go outside and get dirty.
i wouldn't say you're a bad father, but there's always that one chance that you could fall on your baby.
you're obviously a very skilled rider but anything can happen, like a mechanical.
i don't understand how you don't see this.

Thevish,
Your the best dad ever! I just sent this to my girlfriend and told her when we have kids, she's going to work. I'll be staying in and looking after the kids..
Your an inspriation to us all, as they say on Pinkbike, "Share the ride", you sir are doing exactly that.
Your a legend.
Si Paton..

hey squantoberger "no way she has a helmet on"..are you serious..ever heard of a broken neck,...her little face is wide open, how's the helmet going to save that. HELMETS DO NOT MAKE YOU INDISTRUCTABLE PEOPLE..i'm sorry, i'm all for havin' fun with your kids, but that looks just a little too risky, the consequenses could be devestating.
by the way dude, i would never call that "being a bad father" you're spending time with your kid, which is more than alot of so-called fathers do. you're giving him memories he's probably going to have forever. i just think of the consequences if something does happen.
Are you all fukin nutz??? That's a baby on the bike, . . man I'm all for rippin it up at an early age 'n that, but crashes can quickly occur when you least expect them. That is not cool, if it's real, . . that is 110% irresponsible. Little difference between that and micheal jackson dangling his baby from a balcony. Just think for one second about the consequences of that guy crashing.
when it has to do with a baby it's always waaaay too risky... c'mon peeps. the baby is strapped in, he's definitely an experienced rider (album), and he's obviously being careful. sure, it's a bit risky but so are a lot of things in life. great pic.
nice pic..........some people are unbelievable though.......photshopped, abuse, bad father tehe kids neck, stroke............would you pricks just shut the f___ up. and enjoy.......c'mon

all the people that r saying hes going to crash ur just retarted, u just wish you could have that skill that this guy has ...rite on buddy keep her happy!

all of you who judge his actions are just lousy riders I think. I guess you all complainers didn't rode a bike with your dad or any other?

what if? what if he takes his kid to a daycare so he can go out and ride and it burns down? life if full of ifs and if you are too concentrated on the risks then maybe biking is the wrong sport for you eh? if you dont take some fun risks in life whats the point? id hate to be your kid (that goes for anyone who says irresponsible parent by the way). great pic, looks like the kid is having a blast!

Thevish - if you love your kid you will stop this follishness immediately! Even if you don't crush, all the shaking and rattling of the brain inside the skull is causing major damage. A small child can't and doesn't know how to absorb the shocks with his body and is shaken jsut like a bag of potatos...
I ride with my little one too but this is nuts.
I ride with my little one too but this is nuts.
come on guys, most of you criticising him would take you kids in a car or leave a child near a pool alone which is alot more dangerous that that, its a teeny jump, not much air and i know a hell of alot of people that throw their babies up nd then catch them... again, way more dangerous... there are alot more dangerous things you can do to a child, this is meerly some harmless fun... have any of you ever heard of a kid beind seriously injured on a bike??? i know of none but personally have known children who have drowned in a bucket or a bath... get over yourselves, life is dangerous and some of you are too busy trying not too hurt yourselves and you have forgotten what living is about...

think for a second if your car crashes at 60 mph with your baby in it???? what happens if any guy crashes his bike with a kid on his back just riding on the road??? 2 foot of air isn't going to introduce any more danger than going 40mph on a commuter bike with a kid on your back.. crashes do occur when you least expect them and its not like this guy is doing it without thinking or what ever... calm the fuk down its not your baby and the kid is still alive so get over it..

i agree with my coutry boy here.
this oke is a really good rider. look at his album.
backflips. supermans etc.
yes i agree that accidents happen when you least expect it.
but 98% of the time that is because you get sloppy/tired.
this guy is very good on a bike.
on a sloppy day/bad day/ lack of concentration moment i would still say he could be better that 50% of the riders on this site!!!
with that said with his own kid on his back he won't get sloppy/lose concentration.
its his kid on his back, he is gona be uber uber carefull.
i look at this photo and i say great! i like it! look how stoked the kid looks! the first time that bad parenting popped into my head was when i read other peoples comments saying that.
this guy is a good rider. he is probably better than you. he is obviously gona be uber carefull with his kid on his back, and the chance of him falling is very slim.
his chances of falling with that kid on his back are smaller than yours when you are just riding along

Hea, wow, can you come up with any other pointless comparisons, . . . . I'm calm as a cue pal.
If I crash my car @ 60 KM/H than I'm sure my certified child safety seat would protect my child as it is meat to, and has been tested for. Taking your child for a bike ride in a regular child seat is a risk, agreed 100% but, and let me be very clear here, TAKING JUMPS AND OTHER NEEDLESSLY DIFFICULT TERRAIN, OR GOING NEEDLESSLY FAST, IS AN ADDITIONAL, UNNECESSARY GODDAM RISK. END OF STORY.
Would you retards stop defending this dumbass and understand, . . . the kid has no choice in this, and as stated before, does NOT know how to take impacts of any kind at ant time. Simply pointless and beyond everything else, RECKLESS!

sirflipalot: the kid is obviously having loads of fun so why does it matter that the kid can't say no, kids do cry when they dont like stuff. and accidents happen, its life get over it. the guy is hardly a "dumbass" for going out and having fun with his kid. does it look like he's flying down a mountain hitting 20ft doubles? no, hes riding some simple trails with his kid having fun. it's not you're kid, and you have no right to call him a bad parent. are you honestly saying that have never done anything that wasn't 100% safe with your kid just to have some fun? because if not then you must be one boring-ass parent. leave the guy alone and go put locks you're cupboards.

Just no flips with him on your back please

what is the difference beetween this and walking down the sidewalk just holding your baby ,you are probabaly more likely to drop your kid walking, definetly a new way to spend time with your kid.

Guys, I'm pretty sure Vish doesn't blast along at world cup speeds when he's got Bhima in the "baby rack." Sure, it's not risk free, but I don't think it's any worse than the way certain people hold their babies (bad grip, could fall easily, etc...).
Awesome picture.
In the worst case, it's always possible to use some sort of neck brace I guess.
Awesome picture.

I know I am going to get a bunch of negative props for this but, if Britney gets in trouble for driving with her baby on her lap, this guy should get locked up. Not defending Britney, but all it takes is one little accident and you got massive head trauma to the toddler. Not to bright... Any one else agree(that's over 1
?
i won't do that.. poor baby - not worth the risk, imagine what will happen if something goes wrong... even the pro riders fall sometimes

Look at the babys face, He/She looks very happy. Having a good time instead of trying to fall asleep in a cage in their house. If he was trying a backflip then it would be stupid, but with 1 foot of air isn't, it's something new for a baby to experience. AND! i was involved in an accident while being taekn on the bike! a CAR RAN INTO MY MOTHER, DID NOT STOP, and drove off, thankfully the bike just got knocked onto a hedge.
LIFE IS NOT WORTH LIVING IF YOU ARE WRAPPED IN A BUBBLE ALL YOUR LIFE!
as a kid you get chicken pox
you fall over
you climb trees
you play conkers
you learn to ride a bicycle
even play ruby, football, american football
WHATEVER!
can no-one do stuff they enjoy anymore!
GET OUT AND HAVE FUN!
dude the kid is 8 months old...
I can understand it for maybe a 2 or 3 year old but 8 months... the brain and spine are at a critical growth phase.

That's way cool. All the big air in your album looks fun but I'll bet you had more fun doing this than all that other stuff. Just ignore all the negative comments from the poser gallery.
You rock dude, (that's what my girlfriend said). Props daddy-O!

Thats f*cking stupid i know some of you are saying probably like yeh but think of how many people die in car crashes there just as dangerous or what ever but think about how many and how offen people drive cars compared to this. I personally think its highly idiotic and if his baby gets injured its his own fault. And to the kid above you can royally f*ck of this kid is barley old enough to know what hes doing he will learn the fun of climbing trees ect in good time but there more then just a tad different then this.
MMM...maybe not the best idea but what the hell. I'll probably end up doing the same thing when I have kids. Hahaha. Have fun.

crotchphesant, are you an idiot? have you ever even been on a bicycle? I'm no kid. I'm probably older that your father. I've been riding since before you were born. Don't be such an ass. Your ignorance is way too obvious.

I just had to come back to this and say..........You folks at Pinkbike ARE STUPID FOOLS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for allowing this photo to remain on your site. Can you imagine how many other brain dead dimwits are going to see this, load their 2 year old in a backpack, crash and cripple or kill the child.
Well im pretty sure after reading your comment, everyone is rushing to the door to hop on their bikes..Hopefully they'll at least bubble wrap the kid, I mean, come on now.. You cannot protect kids from everything. I think today's youth is so corrupt and mislead because we dont even experience life anymore..kids used to get pellet guns for x-mas..it didnt mean they were going to shoot people, and it was an experience that was common back then..now you practically have to have a license to get one. Can you imagine how many "brain dead dimwits" have dogs that are known to be aggressive around their infants. You hear about infants getting mauled by dogs all the time.. but does that stop people from doing it? Its a FREE WORLD. Isn't it Bush?
this photos amazing. look at the kids face hes having a really good time. yea it might be a bit risky but there bothe just haveing fun and yea if he was throwing himself off a 50ft cliffe with his baby on his back it would be very dangerous but on a little jump like this with the skillfull rider i dont think its gunna hurt the baby. nice picture
Wheelbender is just another one of the ubiquitous paranoid little people trying to force their scared perversions on other people. Ha ha ha,,,
I love all the positive riders out here but the negative scared people with their sour grapes attitudes are not worthy of even owning a bicycle.

Ok, here's the Alberta update, -44 without windchill for the bikeride to the university this morning. About the picture? Well all I can say is that I wish my dad was that sweet!

i have an addiction to biking and a 10 months baby.
although i can feel in my guts and heart how much fun this could be , i would never do it.
the crashing could be desastrous , but we put the baby in the car everyday(almost) and we all know how dangerous car accidents can be. it's the impact of landing jumps that would worrie me the most. as smooth as the landing could be , i think it can do some serious dammmage.

ok you can say that dangerous car accidents happen offen... that it is the same like walking on red light which we all do or done once/twice
BUT...
Baby doesnt think like we do... Its our duty to think for it... To protect it .. thats why it is so controversal. Annyway i think its a bit selfish to take that risk .. what about other people who care about the kid? mother etc...?
But thats just my opinion anyway i share the idea of haveing fun and joy with kid its sure a great experiance...

no offence to You ( Wickrider ) ive filled the wrong window (replay instead of post a new comm) Sorry
the idea of sharin that with your kid is great.....but hes not even going to remeber it anyway. Also, for those who nay say the "what if" people with all these other dangerous things. EVERYTHING is dangerous, its about the actual probability of an incident occuring though. Walking a stroller with your kid cant even be compared to biking and doing jumps with him.
Truly, honestly, IMO this is a terrible idea. What a larger body can sustain as a "mild jolt" will be amplified for the child. Yes babies are "softer" but their muscles cant support them as well, to prevent jarring.
Just my 2 cents.

I agree this guy is a fringin idiot. He won't be so cool when he kills his kid or turns turns him into a quadriplegic. Do you have any idea how weak a kids neck is at that age. This jerk should be reported to child services.

why, this is an excellent pic, daddy and daughter out for a Sunday ride. Props to you sharing time with your child!!! Everyone is always so negative and disrespectful towards acts like this....most of these comments are from Kids who parents probably smoked while having them in the car with the windows up. Boo on you !! Everyday we take risks, grab life by the horns, remomber how you were brought up...parents do silly things but most of all they look out for you. ANd hey they're are both wearing helmets!! Props

Old school, that is true enough that most people do stupid things with kids, but there is a difference between taking a kid for a ride and jumping with one on your back. If you look at the other pics he took a sizeable jump with the kid on his back and clearly doesn't clean it onto the tranny. The kids neck is obviously stressed and in case U don't know kids necks are very weak compared to adults'. Basically he is the Britney spears of biking and should have child and family services pay him a visit. He is obviously wanting to give his kid a cool experience, but there are better ways to do that than doing DJs with the kid strapped to you. There must be lots of smooth single track out there that presents no risk of death or paralysis to the child.
its perfectly fine, reminds me of my friend, who ordered a custom full susser bike for his 3-year-old son, so that they could ride togeteher. the spirit of the pic is great. go on with that, and be careful.
[Reply]
You are a HERO! I dont think this is going to harm your kid! (I mean IF YOU ARE A GOOD RIDER)! I mean this is wery small jump and it is just like taking a small jump with a heavy backpack. (But way more value)! I would dare to do this with my kid becouse I know how stable I´am on the bike..... But my girlfriend would kill me for doing this.
bladdy hell, why does everyone have to debate about everything. its a sweet riding pic, on a bike website, what more needs to be said?
Thats Awesome vish. I personally am not worried of him falling on the kid, he is a great rider, the only thing Im worried about is the kid getting a whiplash, breaking his neck or pinching a nerve. Curious...how old is your son?
OMG. If it isn't Photoshop u are one of most irresponsible fathers, yours actions expose your child to a concussion not talking aboute situation and something goes wrong and u end up in dirt...
Right now somewhere in the world, i can bet a child is getting beat up by their own parent. Everybody is looking at this picture horrified. People take risks everyday. Why let the fear of "what if" hold you back all of your life? This guy is taking a lot of crap, because his picture is now glorified..This is obviously NOT the first time this has been done. There are 6 billion people in the world, and a fair amount have ridden bikes at one time or another. I think what everyone needs to do is just stop bitching so much. Just because this is the first picture most of us have seen of this situation does not mean that it is in fact the first time it has been done! Lighten up a little and just realize that it could be worse.. hell, feeding the baby food out of a jar is probably going to have a far more adverse affect on is life then taking him off a few jumps.
"Right now somewhere in the world, i can bet a child is getting beat up by their own parent"
WTF - does that make this right . . . .No.
"Why let the fear of "what if" hold you back all of your life?"
Again, WTF . . . it's a BABY. It can't hold itself back, and it's life is likely less than 700 days in so far.
"feeding the baby food out of a jar is probably going to have a far more adverse affect on is life then taking him off a few jumps"
Another one, just proving how retarded you (I really hope) must be. Please, do not breed for the good of us all.

Hahah, I had one look at your profile..and then it donned on me. You really are 7!
For the record, I am not a retard, and I would prefer if you would not refer to me as one. At no point in my post did I refer to you in a derogatory manner, so I expect the same from you.
As you seem to be an expert in child development, I would expect that you must have some intelligence.
The point I was trying to make is that you guys are all taking this wayy to fcking seriously. There is kids being beat by the very same people who are supposed to protect them. This man obviously loves his kid and would like him to experience life. Some kids never have this, so instead of dwelling on what is wrong with this picture, understand that he is not harming the child. He is loving his child the way every parent should.
It is a picture, which means that, it was taken some time ago. Meaning, he is not going to go back in time, and not take his kid off the jump. And, im pretty sure, like most children, if the baby didn't like it, he would be bawling his eyes out.. Which, judging from the picture taken some time ago, he is NOT. It is common sense.
And seriously, you don't think that all of the harsh chemicals and additives being put into everyday consumer products are not going to have some affect on the outcome of this child's life? I'm pretty sure there is more of a chance this kid dies in a car crash than going over that jump. He doesnt go riding with the kid everyday, however I'm sure he takes the baby somewhere in a car everyday.
I seriously hope you do not have children. Because little would they know how narrow minded their father would be. Oh, trying to act mature, and then name calling looks real good. Keep it up buddy.

No prob man, as long as there are people out there who think that that there is no problem with taking on pointless additional risks like taking jumps with your kid in a child seat on the back of your bike with it's head bouncing around . . . . as long as you kinda people are out there to endorse and encourage this type of behavior, which is what you are doing by condoning it, then yes, I will be there to call you retards, and believe me I do not mean that in any type of derogatory way at all.
Simply retarded.
Simply retarded.
I have to admit if people don't like to look at things or what others are doing they can simply not look. I only choose to comment on this because in this case the child can't speak for itself. I have a child so I feel I have the creditials to speak on this. I think this is irresponsible of you and you should seriously consider the Risk vs. Reward here! It may be cool to look back on later to show you kid, but hopefully he/she is around to see it. The pictures in your album of you landing and the baby has no helmet you can see the babies neck is severly dis-proportionate to the body!!!
DUDE, what are you thinking, this is not cool!!! You are clearly a talented rider, but you seem to lack the ability to think past "yourself" and the consequences of your actions and the impact they have on others...I'm not sure of the child endagerment laws in your territory but in the States, this would make the 6, 8 and 10 o'clock news!
I repeat, please consider "RISK vs REWARD"..........

So if other people are stupid, irresponsible and dangerous than we should all be too???

its abit risky but what isnt nowerdays? It's not like your hitting up the booter next to it.
People saying about shocks to the baby...what happens when you go over a speed bump in the road on your car? i bet the baby gets more shock from that than from landing this tiny jump.
People need to lighten up.
Totally deserved POD and is an inspiration to our sport.
But be careful.

I'm against this new generetion of parents that want to wrap their kids in bubble-wrap.... this kid is outside in the sun bonding with his dad, not tied down to some automatically oscillating baby chair.

My very first memory is being on the back of my parents bike as they crusied around when i was about 2 years old. This kids got it waaay better then most, and POPS is NOT just riding along carefree. He is obvious focused on the simple little jump to keep it smooth AND fun for the little one. Crashes happen all the time when you are just riding along BECAUSE you are not focused on what you are doing. Can't wait to take my little guy out for his first rip.
its a could idea but i dont really aprrove of jumps just because of the fact that if he fell off the baby could hurt itself but then again if he trusts himself and most importantly his girlfriend or wife trusts him and he is an experienced rider then a good and amusing idea

The kid would probably smile & laugh if you placed him on the hood of your SUV & drove around the yard.
Fun does NOT make it SAFE. Putting such a young child's welfware at risk (even if appears to be low) for the sake of having just having fun or trying to get a POD is simply ignorant. I hope the rider (and others) never lives to regret taking a risk with his child who depends on his judgement. Maybe at the time, the rider did not think it was such a big deal. Now, hopefully all this concern by half of pinkpink readers will make him (and others) think twice before doing something like this.
Have fun & TAKE CARE all
(oh.. & I have 3 kids with one just starting DHing)

Dumb, if you fall, your kid falls from a height far geater than his own height, he has no mechanism in place to react and stop his fall and his skull has not ossified and therefore he is more suseptable to brain injury even with the helmet. Great that you're outdoors and trying to include your kid in the fun but this is just plain reckless. Put the kid in a trailer, that way if you bail he is strapped in and is less likely to have a head injury.
what a great dad! not, this is disturbing. the only thing you should ride with your kid on back is the road^^^^that guy is right
How about doing a "whip" every other jump to look back and check on da baby. Please don't forget to adjust the shock pre-load; and please feed junior AFTER you ride, unless you want to burp him this way.
For those of you that are saying this is not irresponcable, here's another picture of the baby: http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/1713445/ The neck on the baby looks strained. The rider know what he's doing riding, I can tell from the relaxed look on his face, but shaking the baby around like that can't be good!
vish was just floating over this little sender jump. The type of head movement was the same as if you went hiking or walking on the street. calm down people.

This thread is great! It really seperates out all the paranoid posers with negative attitudes.
What is really illuminated is the lack of judgement and skill possesed by the nay sayers. Fear for the competence of others is like saying "Since I'm incompetant to do that then so is everybody else." News flash for all you girlymen, get over yourselves, if your parents were half as competent as this dude perhaps you would be less likely to freak out all the time like you are about this photo.

This picture really has sparked a heated debate. I have to agree with both points of view. As an older brother, I have done things like this, and it really is alot of fun. My little brother used to love getting on my back while we ride (now he just rides his own bike). I now realize how dagerous some of the stuff we did is, and I wouldn't do some of it agaian, but hey...we were kids. However, I don't have a problem with simple, easy rides, especially if adaquate saftey percautions are taken. That baby seems well stapped in, and he has a helmet. I assume that the father is confident in his riding ability and the terrain he's riding on, or else he probably wouldn't have taken the kid out with him. At least when you're riding, you have control over what happens.
I'm sure a lot of us here have toboganed, or riden a sled down a hill as children. In my opinion sledding down an icy hill is far more dangerous; 7-hills tobogan area in St. Albert is really steep for sledding, and its always packed with kids. Hills can have trees, bumps, and other obsticals that put kids in the hospital every winter. There are often city streets at the bottom of most hills. On top of it all, one has little to no controll when roketing down a hill on a sled. Sledding is far more dangerous than biking, and tons of kids do it in the winter too. As parents, we don't tell our children that they can't go sledding. Everything we do involves some degree of risk, and we accept that.
I was back country skiing over Christmas, and came upon a ski accident. The girl had no chance of skiing out of the area, and walking was out of the question (due to trail conditions, and skier's injuries). The trail back to start area was fairly technical, and the only option we could see was for me to carry her down on my back. After the nessesary first-aid was administered, we rigged her up, and skied down carfully. I guess what I'm getting at is; if you're careful and don't take any unessesary risks, then putting a kid on your back to go riding is acceptable. As for doing jumps and stuff like that, I would be a little uneasy, and I wouldn`t do that with my younger brother, or kid in this case.
That's just my opinion.

Haha I love how all this is going on and everyone is saying all this negative stuff but no one even bothers to ask how old the child is. Maybe he/she has full control over his/her head, and this is something THE CHILD wants to do and enjoys doing.
Anyway awesome picture and it looks like both of you are having a blast.
By the way how old is he/she and what is his/her name? Very cute baby.

Sure, there are worse things you can do with your child, but WTF. Some risks are avoidable and some are not. If something were to happen how would you be able to forgive yourself. As for all of the supporters, I guess there really are a lot of stupid people, even mountain bikers.

Those babypacks are illegal at ski hills for a reason!!!(that's illegal in big puffy Fernie snow, so what about hard pack ground?)I hate to say it but I a little disapointed at pink bike for puting this up for pic of the day????
I agree the guy has no brains and yes I did send an email to Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii, and sent them a copy of links to all the pic's he posted. And I will sleep just fine tonight knowing I did this.
p.s. - I also have a copy of all the pic's in case they get deleted. I have kids and don't think highly of anyone who doesn't take care of their kids. You want to risk your own neck, go right ahead, risk a kids neck, and that is a different story.

Dam your a dick. I mean come on. Even though this might be wrong, getting authorities involved is not needed. Your acting like he's whipping his kid. Crumudgen.
Ya good idea, lets all sit back and do nothing. Watch someone endanger a child and pretend it never happened. This bikerguy2007 has guts for doing someone. This world would be a lot better off if everyone stood up and did something when they saw someone doing something wrong.
Oh my f*cking god you people are so annoying half the people who Chew this guy up as a bad guy on this Site obviously are not old enough to be parents there all 12 to 20 pretty much and the guys that are fathers probably have there wives typing all this were arresting this man through the site bull crap or there so scared of injury that they think anyone is effected by it...
The only reason pink bike put it up is so people would yell and get mad and take sides its what keeps this stupid biking site popular
You know what the funniest thing is if you couldn't comment it wouldn't even be an Issue to begin with just throwing that out there....
RETARDS phhhhhhhhh

that Is lets see 365 (plus 1 mine right now)of wasted thinking for one picture i think every one has to get out more and stop being so mellow dramatic for others lives
Mellow dramatic? Words of wisdom from a 15 year old who still lets his mommy change his disposable daiper.
Do you have any idea how easy it is to snap a kids neck at that age? This guy (and you) are idiots for thinking this is okay.
Yes he probably thinks he is having fun with his kid, but he obviously has no idea how easily that poor kid could get hurt. And if the day ever comes when you have kids, I hope you have more sense than this guy does.
If not, then Natural Selection will take care of you and anyone else so stupid.

Kgregor243master, feel the burn, lol.
Lets see, in one post you can a guy a "f*gggg" and now you call everyone who comments a "RETARDS". What's your problem Kgregor243master, did mommy put your diaper on backwards?
Post a stupid comment, you get burned, post two stupid comments and lets hope Natural Selection helps keep you out of the gene pool, lol.
p.s. - and yes I do agree, this guy isn't thinking, this kid is way to young and I hope to hell he doesn't crash and crush his kid. Not cool man, not cool at all. Wait a bit and buy him his own bike, that would be way more fun.

THIS GUY IS CRAZY!!! IF HE FLIPS, SAY GOODBYE TO JUNIOR!!! tHAT KID WILL SEE THAT PICTURE WHEN HE IS OLDER AND PUNCH HIS DAD IN THE HEAD!!! the kid looks happy though
man, the father wouldnt let anything happen, even if anythign did, instint would kick in, and he would throw himself up before the baby anyway's, i love this !!
[Reply]
She was probably the one who took the picture, and if that is the case, that poor kid has two stupid parents.
Not very bright man, instinct might kick in, but what if he isn't quite quick enough? How many times have you crashed when you least expected it and didn't have time to react? More than you'll ever admit. Just not worth it.

Poor kid man what if you fell like really man every one falls doesnt matter if its harsh and just falling over but really what if you wiped out and u have like a kid thats a couple months old on your f*cking back and you wipe out the kid could get REALLY hurt (then ur girl friend would flip)
I dont understand how everybody thinks his neck is going to snap off of a 2 foot table top with a 7" travel bike with a smooth landing obviously he wouldnt do it if it was completely unsafe. And dont tell me that non of you have never did anything stupid. All of the people that ride with babies on there back going down the street at 60 kmh people would just say omg WtF what if he crashed. Im not saying that there isnt a risk involved but even just sitting here your taking a risk.Like what if an asteroid came down right now and smashed you.Life is a risk and its no fun if you dont take risks.
RELAX EVERYONE HES NOT DOIN ANYTHING CRAZY!!!
look at that bigger jump to the right.. obviously hes not gonna take any risks so everyone whos bitching about this not being safe and stupid stfu!
its just like cruisin down some single track with little tables here and there

I've joked about doing this before (I have two kids). But I haven't accually done it. Seems kinda crazy. When I've thought/joked about it before, it's because there was no one to watch the kids for me, so the fact that his mom took the pic, seems weird.
vish and most of the other people leaving comments here have no idea about human physiology, especially that of a baby's. some of vish's other baby & bike pics are far more disturbing than this one as well, so you really don't understand what's going on in these pics. do a little reading on shaken baby syndrome and you'll start to get an idea of the issues.
if you don't beleive what you read on the web, show these pics to your doctor and listen to what he or she has to say about riding with a baby on your back like this.

Its called natural selection for a reason......its natural. This is not natural. Disappointing and disgusting. You make me sick.
my wife called the National Center on Shaken Baby syndrome (801-627-3399) and told the person there exactly what i was doing with my child.. taking him on my Back .. on my bike.. over small jumps and some small trail riding and they said .. no no no, its a violent shake that would do the damage, taking him for a hike in a pack.. or a ride on your bike.. is not
what will trigger SBS..
still .. everyone is different, not all 8month olds are the same.. correct? he does not get whip lash.. this argument pointless.. your looking at a Still picture! how the Hell can you tell? pictures say a thousand words.
you people are over reacting, what you are more concerned about is if i crash, well.. i say , worry about yourselves.. drive safer, ride in a skatepark full of kids more cautious, and most of all.. mind your own business.

A guy riding his bike, he has a helmet on and his little kid in a backpack doesn't. Then post the pictures and don't expect anyone to get mad???? Take a close look man, all the positive comments are from younger people, all the hard press is from people with kids or little brother &/or sister. That's all that is happening here. People see something that bothers them and they are going to comment. I personally think it's a bad idea. My opinion and from what I have read a lot of people agree that it's a bad idea.

Your the wanker..... lol.
He meant the pictures of himself and his kid on his profile. In two pictures he had a helmet on and the kid didn't. Looks like he has gotten to much bad press and deleted the pic's with the kid not wearing a helmet.

I'm behind you 100% dude. Don't let a few grumpy posers ruin your day. Love the picture, love the action. It's only the ones that are incompetent themselves that are giving you grief.
By the way, awesome job fereting out and exposing all the negative Nelly chumps.

Negative Nelly Chumps????
Where do you americans go to school anyways?
This guy is "not" taking his kids safety into account. If you think he is, then you are just like him, you Negative Nelly Chump. Got me all scared now, lol.

I noticed that all the other photos of the kid have been deleted. I think that action in itself shows that the rider knows (or now knows) that it was purely POOR judgement riding with the kid on his back.
come on boys, im sure the kids alright, he would no not to take him if the kid would get hurt!
so toughen up, and mine your buisness hes not your kid is he.

The rider and ANYONE and EVERYONE who thinks that's funny is a f'cking douche. I'm a dad with two little girls, so I'm not one of you stupid little retards who thinks it's "cool." Perhps your parnets did that and you're all the end result.
Thevish? I hope you fall, break your damn neck and your innocent child escapes unscathed. Die moron, don't spread your DNA any further.

WeeMan-Freeride, thevish is not a f*cking kid, but clearly you are. b-free's comment was aimed directly at thevish, not everyone. Please read before you run your mouth in the future.
if all you people with negative comments took some time out to look at his gallery this guy is an intense rider. This jump is small and as he said a table. He has 7" of travel in the front and 6" in the back plus the shock release on his knees. The baby will be fine.
So harden up n dnt call him a bad father.
By the way Thevish its a great way to spend time with ur kid. Keep it up and have a gud time doin it

QUESTION??? Where did the other pics go of you riding with your baby? I recall your child did not have a helmet on in two of the pics... you can also tell the helmet does not fit your child's head... The other pics also showed your child's head flopping around like a wet noodle...These are the pics that pissed off a lot of people...and yes even good riders fall...
go do something else, this has been chewed up ..spat out and done with.
his head was not flopping around, i researched, rang SBS's went to 3 doctors.. its done already dude, give it up.

okay it's been chewed up...spat out...but are you recommending and condoning other parents to ride with their enfants strapped to their back ...how many young parents do you think are going to try this ... lets hope like hell they are all as good as you are at riding...no hard feelings here... it's just that i was totally shocked to see that pink bike posted that picture as POD...with out knowing how constrovesial it would be
are you asking me a question?
have you read my blog on this?
i yell caution! in this regard.. don't just strap your kid to your back and do what ever the hell you want.. i don't condone that at all, i say you make that decision as a parent
yourself... if you fall and hurt your child, you have yourself to blame.
if i want to wipe my kids ass in a downward motion with baby wipes.. thats my choice as a parent... if i don't want him immunised and have his shots at birth.. thats my choice..
infact.. i get to name him as well right? i am not abusing my child.. there's is no abuse there.. But there is however potential room for error which is lerking at every corner of a persons life.. the painkillers you left under the bed, the pool fence you never put up, the drunk driver you did'nt see.. or in my case.. equipment failure [my bike could fail]
yep.. could happen, shoulda coulda woulda.
bottom line is, everyone wants to have a say in someone else's life, they have such a boring one of there own.. they are always looking over the neighbours fence.
were any of you people on pinkbike there when i strapped him on? all you see is a still picture.. which can say 1000 words but only mean 4, MYOB.

if you guys care so much, come and change a few of his diapers, or babysit out of your busy lives..
and when he wakes up every hour of the night.. come help me put him back to sleep while you lose some of your own.
while your at it, pay for some of his food.. and when he's throwing a tantrum because i did'nt give him what he wanted.. can you provide it? make him a nice brat?
seriously.. go ride your darn bike

thevish, props to the photo. what brand baby carrier are you using for your child? I'm nowhere as good a rider but it most definitely would be a great experience for my little one if i had her strapped on my back (prolly a stationary bike though, lol). both my wife and i love the sport and can't wait to have our little one get the mountain biking bug! cheers!
Ergo is the brand..
thanks mate.. i don't encourage you to do what i did.. and i'm sure you won't..
but seriously.. don't put your kid in one of those stupid ass bike seats that mums n dad's with almost no biking skills take their kids on the street with.. i HIGHLY encourage having bub's strapped
to you (not front) .. that way you have a little more control of where you fall..you'll have baby cushioned by your back in the event of falling forward from front wheel wash out etc etc.
honestly, i ride my bike so much.. it's like walking for me, those 2 wheels are my legs.

the baby is like fuk yeah this is the tits and if he could speak he would be lke wen i grow up i wana ride like u dad .lol
all u muther f*ckers that think its wrong, well go suck a dick, atleast he is enjoying life, and his kid looks like hes enjoying it too, so harden the f*ck up already half u muther f*ckers say negative shit to this and ur not even a god dam parent yet, so if u got nothing good to say to this, well get the f*ck off this site then
You f*cking f*ggot, you don't even know what the f*ck you're talking about. We're concerned for the child's safety, while the father is clearly not. It's extremely dangerous to be jarring the kid around like you would on a mountain bike. When the kid's only 8 months old, his bones are not yet nearly as strong as those of an adult and will easily break with heavy impact and/or vibration, such as that from stutter bumps or small drops and jumps.

I'd be right behind ya with my kid! No worries- majority of these comments are from people with no kids. So f*ck them. My daughter says "Send it Daddy!"
Your daughter could be saying absolutely nothing if she turns into a vegetable from the brain damage after you stack doing stupid shit like this. I don't need to have kids to know when someone's being a f*cking idiot and recklessly negligent with their child. I know abuse when I see it.
haha im stoked on bringin my kid ridin when i have one. thats sick man keep ridin and keep the kid ridin too

Thats awesome. It's just like taking a child in any other mode of transportation. He could get in a car crash, possibly easier then he could get into a bicycle accident. Judging by his pictures he is a very experienced rider and obviously knows what he is doing.
yeah, as stated earlier, you cant avoid danger, you might as well live in a bulletproof padded room all your life, whats the harm in sending it with a kid on your back
kid looks like they are having fun, wearing a helmet too so wont become a vegetable.
its more dangerous crossing a road if you ask me, as long as the rider doesnt take unnecessary risks
