gutkrencher thats a bit harsh to doddy! he only gets the bikes cos of his job, and he does a good job, its a sweet mag, and i'm guessing they are nearly all test bikes so he doesnt actually get to keep them! but anyways back to the point sweet shot
dirtjumpin, he gets to keep the bikes as he owns then. Like that Pink Cove Peeler or whatever it was he had was his. However suspiciously as a lot of readers caught onto it, whenever he gave a brilliant review a month or two down the line he'd be having the extra same product on his bike lol. Look through the issues and you'll see it happening. Also for a laugh just tilt your mag so you can really see the angles he's riding at.
Companies rarely ask for test parts/bikes back as they cant be sold on. Future Publishing have a long established relationship with most bike companies so their staff are able to get incredible discounts/gifts from time to time. Whether or not this affects the sincerity of the reviews is a matter of opinion. Personally I don't think it has much of an effect, but I always look for as many reviews as possible before spending my hard earned cash.

Wow, so much negativity for MBUK and Doddy. The way i see it is that magazines like MBUK are vital for our sport and like it or not so is brand value. The guys in the mags may look little tits dressed up in all the garb but face it dudes, thats whats keeping our sport going and attracting big name sponsorship. I disagree - companies make bikes and we pay ridiculous prices for them because we love to ride - that's how it works. It's not Doddy keeping everything going, it's us! It seems like you're suggesting bike companies only survive from sponsorship deals which of course isnt true - teams survive off sponsorship deals. Yes it may seem like people are bitching, but answer me this: if everyone is so jealous of riders living the dream, why dont they attack all of them? First things first, POD is all about the photo and the inspiration to ride. POD is nothing to do with the personality of the riding subjects, all these personal attacks reminds me of a great saying my grandmother used to say, "No one ever kicks a dead dog". Look it up guys..
Secondly, yes the photographer tilted the camera, thats crystal clear to see to anyone with a brain.
Now if you ever work hard enough and make the right contacts you too can get on companies flow lists. They send you loads of nice swag but of course it's not for free. They want you to get it out here in the mags and on the webites. That is exactly what Doddy does for a living, it's his job.
Last but not least, to the untrained eye like mine it's an eye catching shot and thats why I guess the Pinktaco crew chose it as POD.

I dont get why people are constantly declairing there hate of MBUK. Personaly, I like it... I mean yeah it has its down sides and small flaws but its still a handy mag you can just pick up and have a read if you like. I have met Doddy before and he seemed like a fair, down to earth rider. Yes there are better riders out there but Dodd doesnt go ranting and raving about how amazing he is on a bike. He just has fun while he working which in my opinion is great! Admittably some of the reviews in MBUK are a bit sketchy, but if you want reviews, why not use MTBR.com (think thats what its called) or get feedback from people who actualy own the product by searching forums.
Bottom line of my little rant is if something doesn't potentialy effect or you don't like something for what ever reason, why not just leave it?
