what's the wear on the link from? or did you have to grind it away for the shock to clear?

yes - I had to file the lower link to clear the ending stroke piece of the shock.

It looks like the shock is clearing fine.
Could be cable rub, doesn't look like the link has been damaged at all.
But what do I know?
