So does brain damage. Keeping your brains on the right side of your skull is not a fashion statement, its the preserve of those with IQ above room temperature.
  • + 11
flag nellydafreerider (May 2, 2008 at 14:53)
very much agreed, but then again it usually takes a drastic situation (like ending up in the hospital with brain damage) for people to realize that what they used to do was uh... stupid. bottom line, wear a god damn lid if not anything else. riders at that level should know better, especially since they are trying to progress their own skills, that their noggin is more important then a f*cking stupid trend in bmxing.

everyday i wonder if i should end my life or not, so if i'm not wearing a helmet and i die, it makes the desicion to kill my self so much more simple. and if i get brain damage i'll either be a veg and not give a f*ck or i'll pull the plug on my self when i'm in the hospital... i know this seems rather drastic for alot of you,but this is nothing put of the ordinary for someone like me, i just don't really care about anything.

on a side note, i saw the thumbnail of this and figured it was BMX, but a big part of my hoped it was a mountain bike. for once i wanna see this kind of stuff get thrown down on a 26'er!

flag mecabeat (May 2, 2008 at 8:07) (Below Threshold) show comment
Why? Do you sell mountain bike parts or something? I do. Hey! Thats a good idea! Lets pay kids to do BMX riding on mountain bikes. Then we can photograph them and put them in magazines and videos and trick other kids into buying these heavy, flexy, fragile, overpriced, 26" wheeled contraptions! Kids all over the world will be trying to ride BMX on these "mountain bikes" but they will be so much harder to do tricks on and so big and cramped that they are constantly buying new parts to solve the problems they are having with broken parts and horrible style. Oh yeah, and of course we know that doing tricks and riding bikes on jumps IS BMX no matter what size wheels you have, but we can tell the kids that this is something different an new, not BMX. That way the "mountain bike" kids will think they are part of some special club and they wont realize that they could buy a bike for 1/3 the cost that lasts 10 times longer and allows them to do the tricks and jumps they are trying to do way easier. Good idea!

flag phosphorsburn (May 2, 2008 at 9:45)
i ride bmx and mtb for that very reason, actually. my statement was made because when i see (for example) a bunnyhop tail whip on a mtb i think "holy jesus! that is insane!" but when i see it on a bmx, i think, "wow, thats pretty sweet!" i just like seeing this kind of gnarly 20 incher tricks being thrown down by a 26 incher. i favor watching bmx videos because for the most part they impress me more, but when a mtb rider pushes the limits and does something only a guy on a 2o'' bike could do it makes it that much more impressive.

and yeah, you got me, i sell bike parts.

http://www.nextag.com/bicycle-horn/search-html

you should get one (or 3) for ye olde bmx bike.

flag meh- (May 2, 2008 at 12:19)
my opinion couldnt be more different from yours phosphorsburn. I think BMXers should be BMXers and likewise for MTBers (obviously Im not saying someone cant do both). I'd much rather watch martinez or bestwick ride BMX and vanderham or Hill ride MTB, because the 2 types of bikes are naturally inclined towards performing better at what they do - so a person who pushes hard in 1 disipline will always get the furthest in terms of progression. For instance turn downs always look better and more locked in on a 20'er because there's a huge gap between the top of the bars and the top-tube for the leg to sit between. They look far more natural than on a 26'.

flag phosphorsburn (May 2, 2008 at 14:13)
i would also like to see a 20incher bomb a DH course... am i wrong or would that be really friggin impressive? i mean, dumb, but impressive if he (or she) killed it.

flag trailsteez (May 2, 2008 at 18:05)
no phosphorburn that would be f*ckin retarded. why would you ever ride a bmx bike on a downhill course. i agree with meh and mecabeat on this one. mountain bikes should stick to the mountain and bmx bikes should stick to the street and parks. its what there made for

And they use 20mm thru-axels on mtb because theyre leighter, stronger for offroad use, easier to use, etc.

PERSONAL CHOICE people, that's what it's all about.
  • + 1
flag WAKIdesigns (May 22, 2009 at 3:20)
It is not a personal choice -> U influence kids with riding with it or without. U dont wear it and U jump around they will not wear it too, and not all of them are so skilled or rather -> not so lucky to come out healthy from their riding without it.

- Yes it is your choice to show kids what should they do - if you had a kid would you as his father tell him: U wanna ride without it, its your choice?! Or would you prefer to lower the risk of loosing your child?
- it is your choice to put all the financial and mostly emotional weight on your family when something happens
- it is your choice to achieve something in life or be disabled or dead, because U did not wear a helmet just because of some attitude and shallow belief...

2 things: 1 - drops to flat WILL f*ck up your bike; I don't care HOW gnarcore you think you are or how soft your landings are, a drop that big to flat WILL kill your bike. 2 - no helmet; no props. It's not just a PERSONAL choice to wear a helmet or not, it's a responsible choice; I don't know this kid, but I'm damn sure his parents/siblings/friends would be mighty pissed if he was killed/brain damaged while doing stuff like this. Think about it; it's not just about YOU but the people you leave behind.

I am sure if he is good enough to t-down a 12 set he has clocked his dome a few times in the past if he doesnt wear a helmet so what let him f*ck his life up.

because who the hell he thinks he is to f*ck someone's life up because of this immature attitude as there is no logical or functional reason to not wear it. Also because he f*cks up the life of kids watching him and choosing not to wear a helmet

i dont normally post comments on pictures because i cant be bothered but pictures should not be allowed to be PODs if the stupid riders dont choose to wear helmets. 3 years ago i made that mistake and it nearly cost me my life and now i wear a helmet everywhere. i dont know where this gay bmx idea came from where its "cool" to not wear helmets but its stupid and have a nasty crash and you will die. there is no maby about it. Nasty crash + no helmet = brain damage or death. like i say i dont know why they think its so cool and when they do wear one they dont strap it but frankly these guys should not get POD for being so unbeleivably stupid and basically gambling their lives. IDIOTIC MORONS thats if you ask me lol

to citizenlee. im not telling them how to live their lives. over in america it aint too bad coz they pay their own medical expesies. Whereas over here we have to splash out thousands and thousands of pounds because some lazy guy "couldnt be bothered" wearing a helmet. fair play if they choose not to....i personally just thinks its selfish. people who die from this have families. do u think they are going to go " u know what is was their choice not to wear a helmet. owell its in the past now" no they have just lost a brother, son, sister just because they were too selfish to not wear a helmet. all im saying is no helmet....no POD

Hey, bad news. I just found out that my idea has already been done. Damn! I could have made a lot of money. As it turns out this has been going on for a while now. Some company named Kona has been paying BMX riders to ride their heavy ass bikes in videos and even contests. Contests that look like BMX contests, but you're only allowed to ride these big clumsy bikes in them. Apparently some suckers are actually fooled into buying these bikes!
