y don't they have it like a regular bike? Freewheel on the rear.. Is there an advantage to having the rear fixed and the frontfreewheel?

flag bunkey (Apr 16, 2009 at 11:27)
20" trials bikes run 18-12 gearing, its cheaper as you just buy a fixed hub (£60), 12t screw on driver (£10) and an 18t screw freewheel (£20), and means ur not forking out for a new drive system for your hub every 6 months. itd also mean that if you were fitting an 18t freewheel on the back, you'd need a bigger sprocket on the front which obviously isnt a good idea for trials with the weight and sprocket impacts etc. also looks cool Wink

flag bighitali (May 16, 2009 at 5:23)
and you don't have to turn the pedal to change gear. the chain moves all the time when you move.

I want to see a bike company integrate a rear hub cassette into a bottom bracket so that we can have a multi-pawl system rather than a freewheel, also to increase the cog tooth options. That would be trick.

  • + 2
flag robloveshiskona (May 14, 2009 at 12:14)
rim breaks hold the wheel perfectly still, where as disks, normally however powerfull sometimes slip, & is you miss a lege or rail & clip your disk you are gona bend it prety badly, tbh i think its just personal prefernece tho :S

  • + 1
flag jason222bike (Aug 25, 2008 at 15:57)
uh...no? Because this isn't a fixed cog? It's a freewheel. You'd have to run a fixed cog in the rear, and I'm not aware of any hub that will take an 8 tooth fixed cog?

flag wheelbreaker180 (Aug 31, 2008 at 21:03)
They are reverse threaded so that every time you pedal it tightens.
Once you put one on and ride it for long enough, you will never be able to get it off. I had two that fused to my crankset and when the freewheel broke i had to get a new crank, sucked

its a basic thing an a trials bike to have a frount freewheel. the main advantage is more clearanceto get up stuff
