CooL
lol, suspension is completely bottomed out, but his legs are straight...those legs and arms are a huge source of suspension too...all too many riders overlook that.
if he goes another mm on the front his forks will hit the front tyre as fox 40s have a flat bottom not curved!"!!!
It hurts
It hurts
did he jump off a building and land on it cos it looks that way to make a pair of fox 40's bottom out
wow:O talk about abuse.. not to sound negative but there is alot of bottoming pic's on this site and underneath each one is at least one comment saying "wow that is so cool" its just not that cool to bottom like that...its depressing.
40's are some of the most linear forks I have owned, when set up properly they sould bottom once or twice per run.

are u dumb? i said nuthing about the rider dumbass, fox forks are crap, you probably don't agree but its true, my buddy was sponsered by fox until he broke 4 forks in 2 months of a seasin
freerider4life : max sus is 8" raising crowns will not help the travel and is not recomended by fox itself they even state the lower crown has a fixed indication of installing it.. !!
i think he has done it many a time before, look at the back of his saddle, you can see where the wheel has rubbed against the saddle.
Felixdb, the fork is NEVER going to touch the wheel, and only the top part of the fork moves, if you dont even know that, they why are you on this website?
ur an idiot bud we all know that and if you cant consider shit maybe you shouldnt be on this web site
byk4lyf, what is your problem exactly? everybody knows that the fork cant ever touch the wheel, EVER, even if the fork is broken.
hey, ewantupper, seeing that a kona can do that just shows that its suspension design works very well dumbass! It is how heavy he is, how big he goes, and whatever setting he has his shock and fork on that allows him to bottom out.
yea man jason222 is so rite, its called smooth how do you think peopel ride a bmx there whole life. they do huge shit that would be harsh on mtn bikes, they no how to control there body so well, they dont need any suspesion.oviosuly mtn bikes do cuz we do tootlay different riding, but you should use both riding styles to ride the best.
To Konad - I agree.
People should try riding hardtail for a while and you'll learn how to control your own body on the bike. I think it actually helps with your style, and can improve your ability on a full suspension bike.
You can get a bike with 9inch or what ever of front and rear travel, but
there are SO many local 'home grow' riders out there within both BMX and MTB (dirt, street, park)that run with very little front suspension only. They can control themselves on the bike and make their runs flow with a passion.
On a different note, I've owned 3 Konas (Stinky 2004, Stinky 2005, Chute 2001) and had no problems with them at all. I've heard a lot of bad rep about them as a brand and I must have been lucky to have never had any issues? Discuss
P.S. HARDTAILS RULE!
HARDTAILS ROCK!

i hate it when people give kona a shit rating, and i admit i used to be one of them, but if you've rode their bikes (and i mean the proper bikes: stab supremes etc, not your shitty stock stinky's) they are up there with the best, i own a wc stab supreme, and i think its staying that way for a long time (yes i have ridden v10's M3's etc to compare aswell). i think you should give bikes a fair trial before judging them, but i do agree, the bottom range kona's are pretty lame.
norcos and konas suck some pretty big hairy balls but konas suck even bigger sweaty and hairyer balls than norcos do
cheezits206 and pinkbikehaz, i been riding Kona long than you have been alive, so stop being little boys and get out and ride.
yea some konas are shit some arent, this bike is for dh its ment to bottom out like that. maybey addd some air in the tires but i mean the suspension bottomign out is fox,not kona fox is top of the line. althouhg a stinky mite not be your ideal ride i have a 2008 cowan ds,u can set it to not bottom out with the 5.0 air,its super stiff and light, honestly its amazing it can be ran single speed cuz its amazing technologie.pivot on the bb. i think its the by far the best 4 inch slopestyle bike and maybe the best. irs so light.konas team rides them hard.theres nothign special about the cowans pauls bass or andrew lac use, there simplay an amazing bike made by kona.
at first i thought it was a HT but dam those fox 40's can take on hell of a beating, i want his DR that thing looks solid

i think he just took the air/oil pressure off the damper, the fox 40 and the tire and ride 1 or 2 metres
wouldn't work, the spring on the rear shock would hold it up, and you can see its still had the spring on
[Reply]
he bottomed out. wow. at least he knows hes getting full travel from his bike, its good to bottom out every now and then, then you know your suspension is correctly set up.
You guys are retarded, bottom out is normal, and if your bike is setup right, you will bottom out once or twice on a harsh ride.
[Reply]
so the kona bikes are the only one that bottom out...and that is why they are mediocre.....hahahahaha dumbasses....!!!!!
Wow you are retarded, suupers was defending kona because everyone was saything this is why you dont buy a kona when all bikes bottom out, f*ck i hate retarded people
f*ckk off anyone saying kona's are shit, there good bikes never had aby problems with mine, they must be good if fabien barel camr out with good results
[Reply]
I dont get it, all you shit people dont understand that bikes do actually bottom out. Before you comment on peoples pictures. Think about it, do u actually know what you are talking about..or are you a keyboard gangster?
thanks guys mikey rides a kona, theres nothing wrong with them, why is evry one arguing over a pic. is arguing going to make bikes stop bottoming out

dude thats so gay
he just took all the air out of his suspension so it looks like he did something big
he just took all the air out of his suspension so it looks like he did something big
id say hes either fat as hell or he over jumped it and flatlanded it and bottomed out the rear and frotn suspension as well as makin the rim hit the ground
[Reply]
[Reply]
he didnt commpress with his body at all, for all i know that can happen from a 2foot drop if you have plush suspention
[Reply]
omg more f*cking dumbarses, posting on this picture saying its bad to bottom out, no its not you bloody idiiots, its called using full travel, no point having a bike with 8inch travel and only using 6 because you think bottom out is bad. Rant over !!!!
[Reply]
commenting on wether or not it should be bottomed out our not is irrelevant without seeing the height of the drop he's taken
it could just be a 2 foot drop for all i know, it's just that he diddnt compress with his body at all
Well them forks arnt running on air and even if he let the air out of the piggyback on the rear shock it would do f*ck all difference, all that does is change the bottom out, its the spring that helps the compression IDIOTS!!!!
am i the only one who thinks its stupid how people say its supposed to bottom like if it was supposed to bottom why would there be like 180mm of travel and/or air assist to KEEP IT FROM BOTTOMING as the fork is compressed it gets stiffer for a reason
For those of you saying he let the air and oil out of the shock and fork *Retards* Look at his chain and rear derailer, obviously he just landed something to make the derailer swing out against its tension and slack the chain. I'm pretty surprised none of you have said the pic if photo shopped.
I agree with all people who said its kind fake, or he is just to heavy fot that bike. You don't really have to jump from roof to do that, You just need to play a bit with your fork and damper...
For f*cks sake, are you retarded?
A correctly set up downhill bike utilises all of it's travel if necessary. And, judging from that picture, it was necessary to use around 95% of the travel upon landing. Why else would people have big travel bikes if it wasn't to absorb shock?
f*cking idiots, please, think before you post ridiculous comments.

-aik. thank you for finally setting it straight. suspension is meant to be used. people who don't know anything about biking and bring their useless comments here just to argue should stop visiting pinkbike.
it's good to cycle a suspension through it's travel once in a while, but it shouldn't be happening all the time

is it me or is the bashguard hitting the ground? ps all the ppl dissing this guy go f**k yourselves, at least hes out riding not being bored and laughing at ppl he dont know on the net, in the end were all here for our love of bikes, so go ride. its suggested that if you ride properly then you should reach the limits of your suspension approx 5 times a ride.
it is true that u can reach the limits a couple of times a ride but looking at his posture(straight legs and arms) he cant ride properly as he is relying purely on the suspension and tyres or he may have been purposly bottoming it out by pushin down as he landed. way to f*ck a bike up.

So many purile little fools dissing Kona - shocks bottom out! When they reach the end of their travel... they bottom out, it's what happens! This is not a fault of Kona's suspension design or even necessarily a setup issue (the rider doesn't look like a heavy person!) - the point y'all missing, is that this rider clearly doesn't use his body as a shock absorber, he makes the bike do all the work - I think Kona's may have a bad rep' because they all seem to be ridden by bike bashing huckers.. the type who break bikes - it's who Kona appeal to as a brand.
yeh i dont like kona but this has f*cking nothing to do with kona bikes, if it have broken then maybe but seriouly who ever this rider is he knows very little or cares very little about bike set up
[Reply]
to jason222bike comment you learn to use your legs as suspension from riding a hard tail i think its funny tho lol
This is so funny... everybody goes like omg awesome bottoming!! but the fact is, he just did a drop on flat and with a flat landing, you always (99%) bottom your suspension because your weight can't be transformed into speed...
yeah thats real look at the chain the tires and the suspension. it all adds up,props to the photographer with the quick hands
yea i dont c why this makes the bike so horrible when he is just bottoming out i mean it happens on everyones bike right

Why the hell is everyone going on about him breaking the bike and it's depressing to see it bottomed out like that etc.?
Your bike is SUPPOSED to bottom out at least once or twice a run and it does bottom out a lot more than you think. What's the big f*cking deal?
