Theres was a comment up there somewhere about Fabien Barel's Kona being completely different to the normal ones. Well... I have (one of) his old bike - The only difference is the shock is shimmed down to a 2.6" stroke to make it a little slacker and lower. The tubing is exactly the same as a 'normal' Kona, and if I ran a 'normal' shock it would be exactly the same as any shop floor Kona's you see. I expect if I ran a 2.75" shock then it'd feel a bit twitchy - But horses for courses I guess. Down a world cup track its planted and very nice to ride - albeit a little slow to get started (long wheelbase). The only reason I can think of why anyone thinks Kona's are shit is a) Because they've never had extensive time on one themselves, or b) They've ridden a Stinky or similar with a shite build spec and flexy cranks. I bet I could break any other frame just as easily as I could snap my Stab.

And do you doubt Giants manufacturing capabilities? They havent changed their design much if it all as "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". It doesn't need changed. If their bikes were dangerous they wouldn't be allowed to sell them. Pro riders don't pick the bike they ride. If Kona choose not to run a Pro race team then that's Kona's choice.

They are obviously not shit, they must be one of the most successful bike manufactures in the world, how many old konas do u see around compared to new bikes, the reason for that is because of durability, they last an age. Why does everyone in the freeride scene ride bloody stinkys? Cause there incredibly good for what u pay and are super strong. Why do some of the best ride for them, cant be that bad if Fabien Barrel won 2 world chapionships on them... For alot of you morons here, if a bike snaps on the welds, then the welds were big shit because welds are stronger than the metal tube itself. But i have to admit that i've seen a sh*t lot of konas broken near the headtube, but this beats many of them. Any bike can brake, but not as often as Konas do. Sh*t who cares if pros ride konas? They ride them because they have everything free. I don't like Konas much, i don't say they're sh*t, but lets be honest with ourselves, they aren't great either.

Also, when i'll see as many pics of broken bikes that are an other brand, i'll stop saying that Kona bikes are weak. People saying pros ride them blahblahblah. So what? They still brake more than any other brands. If you can't face the fact that Konas are pretty weak then you're ignorant. Sorry but thats true.

On the pt.2 of the video (on youtube) we can see that the down side of the down tube is deformated to the sides. The upper tube not. I'm not shure but I think it might be something like hitting a tree. Or mayby the upper tube broke and he started to brake front brake really hard.

just putting it out there i own a stab deluxe, and i love it, so much control the suspension design works well for racing and dhing, kona isn't the only bike that snaps, any frame or fork can snap, its just a matter of luck pretty much, they all are made pretty much the same, same materials, welding and such, how you ride the bike makes a difference

which shows actually that kona's welds held up due to quality workmanship, it also shows how bit that crash must have been to bend the metal, rather than just snap a weld!
