He ground a little out of the arch and the 29ers cleared fine. It apparently wasn't enough to affect the strength of the fork.

too bad the tire hits the frame at 170mm or so. and the frame looks like its made out of mulched carboard and play-doh. not to mention it has like crappy wal-mart rims. also, your bottom bracket would be dragging off the ground as soon as you use like 5mm of rear travel.

BAD idea, especially trying to customize a $1,500 fork. .

you have no clue who made this bike, do you? alex morgan has been making carbon bikes and bike parts for a damn long time now. he pioneered floating/virtual pivots ahead f his time, and gearboxes too. 29"s in dh...he's been working at that for a while. the fork...with every other fork he's used (manitous, and white bros. mainly), he's limited it to 6" or 7", so it doesn't hit the arch, and also because the fact that 29" wheels roll over smaller stuf, thereby rendering the first few inches of dh travel irrelevant. he knows his shit. he's not doctor z.

No, you're the one who should be thinking. The arch goes above the lower crown when you bottom out your fork. Also he has the stanctions lowered in the crowns, which makes it even more likely that his tire will hit the lower crown at full compression.

since he has continued selling this bike for at least two seasons now, and considering the fact that it comes with a three years warranty, i'm guessing he has thought out all these problems. This is probably a really good bike, and 29'' on a DH bike is interesting.

It sounds gay to you because you're an ignorant fool. Besides downhill, I also ride XC, and I can tell you that my 29'xc bike descends ALOT better than my similar 26 Xc bike. It simply rolls over everything. I have never tried a 29' downhill bike, but as Retardviking said, It would surely be interesting.
