It being rigid, doesn't mean it doesn't flex. You could go down a hill at 25 km/h with my old fork, apply the brake, and actually see the bottom of the fork leg flexing like hardcore (up to 2 inches!)...this meta fork barely flexes at all, very solid. A lot better for moves that require a large amount of force in that area (any front wheel moves really...)

Different metals flex different, as well as construction/design.

Yes, I'm running single speed. 18:16 gear ratio with 170 mm cranks.
