Sorry, but i don't like it much. I don't really think the hdr adds much to it, it just makes it look to surreal and fake. You have loads of non hdr shots in your gallery which are waay better.
Thanks, that's the point that so many ppl r missing. I take 1000's of pics at these events & want it to look over processed/cartoony on the HDR coz I have 950 normal ones & 50 HDR from 1 day, spose my animation studies play a big role in that too. That's a good idea, will get in contact with them.
Hey Eric- Sweet POD... I don't see why anybody should care if it was "Photoshopped" or not. Don't they understand 99.99% of what we see (print & TV both) has been touched-up in some form? Anyway... nice shot, I'm looking forward to seeing more.
Thanks man nope, unfortunately not... most have never opened photoshop or ever used it properly & pass stupid comments on here to sound like they know something about it... no cure for stupidity yet I'm afraid haha more are always on the way Peace
i think it looks WHIKED! perfect scenery like something dagerous is goin to happen... WHIKED! bike and jump with the followin dirt on the trail. can't get much better that this and the pricks bringin this picture down... lets see you hit that jump and make it lok as good as this guy did... no even try to take the picture that the photographer did its hard shit. anyways BAD props to the biker and the photographer for this shot pictures like this is whats keepin pink bikes pictures so amazing. thanks bro peace
I dont know why ppl complain about photos being retouched from photoshop and photomatix? Professional Photographers use there programs ALL the time. Its really hard to make a photo come out just the way you want, esp when your not in a studio. Great pic and GREAT use of HDR
Yeah man, darkroom processing they accept, but digital processing not?!?! If you took an analogue film you take it to a shop & they process it & give it to you with tweaked colours & contrast, but you don't see it so when you say I processed the image in photoshop, because u can go further with it, they immediately think you made the gap bigger, higher, steeper etc. when u did exactly the same as any photo processor has been doing for years. I just find it interesting how ppl pretend to know so much about something they dont have the 1st clue about. I teach photography & digital processing & yeah, this is not the norm, but it has it's place... I wonder how many of these kids complained about the processing in Sin City or 300... haha... "mommy they photoshopped my movie" haha If you like the result who cares how you got there...just enjoy it.
Well done eric.I like the fact that you dont take any1s shit.they just jealous and like you said its easy to sit back and be a critic.Im not that clued up on photos and how they done but as soon as i checked this it was a hit.keep them coming!
To ericpalmer - I gotta say, I am not a huge fan of this shot, mainly due to the "HDR" effect. As was said above though I like many of your other shots. That being said, I have to give you huge props for taking the time to answer so many of the questions, and responding to comments. That's pretty rad, and it shows that you're very proud of your work. I respect that. Cheers.
Thanks man, glad ur honest & doing it in a civilized way & don't just say "u f*cked it up with the HDR". Appreciate that, Thanks! Photography is my job, not action sports specifically yet, but I'm trying to get in there (I've only bin photographing for just over a yr) & I'm very passionate about what I do & don't see the point of doing something that you don't feel strongly about... this is also my 1st POD, so am pretty stoked on that too. Peace man!
Awe! Awesome to see my bike on POD! Nice one Louis. Cool pic Eric. You should come shoot some epic shots on my course. Maybe we can get a POD with ME on my bike! Ha Ha
love the pic hes riding a scott gambler i have the same fraim but run a 66 up front, its such a nice bike, first genoration and fells so good on eny trail. great photo as well
hahaha it's not even his bike. it was at a festival and he was going for the all rounder award. he wanted to do this event on his bike but his friend said no you canb use mine! so he got to do it on a gambler! i wish i had friends like that...
Haha, rather that than just saying "PHOTOSHOPPED".... so thanks! It stands for High Dynamic Range... you get more tonal depth by either combining multiple jpg shots, but I can't do that for action so just take 1 RAW shot coz it has way more tonal depth than a jpg, so get a pseudo HDR. Just google HDR for a more detailed explanation.
It's an HDR... Photomatix...not photoshop .... would you prefer to see one that's the same as every other pic u've seen before?!?! Glad u still like it tho
personal opinions will differ... I like the natural stuff too, but can't shoot all my stuff the same...gets boring for me (look through some of my albums & u'll see I have both seriously edited & just about untouched shots), but amped most ppl are liking HDR so will keep doin it. Thanks man
I deleted it coz u were just being a prick... this is at least a bit more of a mature way of putting the same comment. Thanks... might put up this pic without the HDR for those of you who dont like the HDR effect, but as I said I need variety in my work.
HAHAHHA, u say mine looks unnatural... dude... that is a shit HDR sky too orange & distant mountain way too bright... the subject here at least calls for some over processing where that doesn't really need it at all. How about u try an HDR so we can diss ur's? Look through some of my other work & stop passing stupid comments about something u have no clue about. Being a critic is a lame & easy job... no ones perfect, so shut up please
Check out my webpage www.vxt.se (it's in swedish, but not so hard to navigate) and look at some of my pictures (for example, click on the pictures to the left). I have never tested HDR-effects because I think it most of the time looks like crap. This is one of those kinds.
Sometimes it does work, for example when taking photos of old houses or cities etc. Putting up a bunch of over processed bike-pictures doesn't do the trick. At least not for me.
I looked on your other photos and thats why I'm a bit negative. I know there are some other pictures that are a lot better than this...
yeah man, u have some good stuff... just the same as on every single biking site I've ever seen, like the BMXer with the red tee on the wall ride, but u dont have to be a dick about my work when I didn't choose what went up for POD, I like the pic, but don't think it's my best by a long shot. I'm just experimenting with HDR on action & if u dont like it I'm really sorry for u, but I'm gonna keep doing it. My aim was to go for something fake looking, so if u think it looks fake I did it right the link to the other HDR I went for something more natural, coz the subject is more natural...this is extreme, so, so is my processing. Check my blog to get a better idea of the rest of my stuff. http://afreakin.blogspot.com/ & flickr http://flickr.com/photos/ericpalmer/
Thanks. Yeah, no hard feelings, just don't take ur frustration out on my pics if u don't like 'em & tell ppl who do like it that it's shit... I dont do it to ur work, so expect the same in return, but the language barrier might make u sound a bit more harsh than u mean to be, so it's all good.
Trail: Greyton Riders: Louis Knipe Description: HDR of the stream gap
I used Photomatix for the HDR & a touch of pshp for added contrast, so u can stop leaving "PHOTOSHOPPED" comments plz.
