oh boy
I am sorry but that is absolutely ridiculous.... The landing is blind but still, you could have over shot at least by a couple of feet.
I dont think guys got hurt, as u see he jumped off the bike on 6th frame and landed on his feet, so hopefully hes ok. If my eyes server me good i think front wheel is in the shape of 8 after landing
why do people keep saying he over jumped the landing.
it looks like he hit the back side of it and massively under-jumped it
it looks like he hit the back side of it and massively under-jumped it
i'll add som knowledge cause our friend that took the pic never checks pinkbike... the run in is gravel, would consider laying down plywood to have the speed... front wheel got taco'd and camas fractured his patella...thats ur knee if you dont know, puts a pretty quick end to a season
hmm, if i was going to get pod i really hoped it wouldn't be this one, but what the hell huh? if anyone cares, i've got better pictures than this in my profile, and more shots by brett eckert too.
my reply is to camas... 'notStupip' u must b f*cking stupid, why would you be happy that someone messed themself and their bike up?
I don't understand how somebody could be that dumb to go so slow off of a gap like that. if you send it off something like that you should come a lot closer to the landing than that. If you case that bad. You weren't even in the right ballpark for speed.
HEY NORCO, before you go running your mouth off about $*&^ you don't know, please, take a second to think. i tried. which is a lot better than you can say, and by the look of your pictures, ever. i spent the entire day on the run-in, which was a loose as hell gravel hill to an extended section of flatness. i pedaled my ass off towards that thing, obviously the second i took off i knew i was boned. just because your possible pod of your "crouched-to-look-fast rock garden" wasn't pod, doesn't mean you know the story behind why i 'didn't even make it in the right ball park.' i don't have the time to respond to every jackass who tells me to kill myself and not the bike, which is why i'm so pissed right now-i'm taking it all out on you because you are known all over pinkbike for talking smack. but for the love of god, if you're going to, either have some decent pics in your profile, or come up to whitefish and send the gap yourself. i can't believe the number of people like you on pinkbike who think they know so much... you only see a tiny portion of the story here, and hopefully one day, you will understand that. i've tried to forget i was ever dumb enough to go for that gap, and unfortunately, pod does not help. people like you, only make things a hell of a lot worse, so i'm sorry. i'm sorry i've been such a dick to you above, and i'm sorry for your viewing pleasure, i sucked so bad i didn't even make it in the right ballpark.
Dude chill out. It does happen to everyone. And if the run in was as bad as you make it sound, you should've walked away from it or just fixed it before going for it. Just givin ya a hard time thats all.
norco, as i said, i am sorry, i'm not normally like this, it's just really hard to hold myself back after finally getting off work and reading all of these comments. i've looked forward to getting a pod for way too long and i'm not exactly fond of people who haven't seen this in person telling me what i should or shouldn't have done, or that i didn't even make it into the ballpark, etc. etc. etc... I agree with you, i should have walked away, but i did my absolute best at that time, and i made the inrun a hundred times better than it was when i got there, it just wasn't enough. With another year's riding experience, if I had to do it again, i would do things differently, I would FIND a way to go faster, a more nimble bike would be one of them, along with hundreds of yards of plywood for the inrun. So once again, sorry, and to ridetrails, sorry but no, i've decided i enjoy feeling my feet enough not to try this again
I'd like to go ahead and vouch for camas. This kid is sick folks, if he came up short, the gap probably wasn't possible!
Dude, you should be apologizing for shit. I know how hard it is to walk away from something you've built. In fact, I have eaten the same bowl of shit building jumps that are too big for their run-in. It could have been way worse, but I'm still sorry about your knee (and short season). People will ALWAYS talk shit on the internet. In fact, I'm starting to wonder if that's what the www is for. Don't take it personally, that's what these 12 year-old clowns want. Just heal, ride you bike, and go fast(er). Respect.
the best part is camas shouldnt care...he didnt even build it and the dumb guys that did wont even hit it. the run in sucks all your speed and it definiately needs plywood or something to help. props to recklessness
Yeah Camas, you really shouldn't apologize. Seriously, most people would look at that gap and crap themselves and walk away.. Actually most people wouldn't even think about it in the first place. You got balls to go for something like that man! More balls than people who get their kicks by insulting you from the other side of a computer screen. Keep riding man, good luck if you try it again
CAMAS uhh, if the in run was so poor, then shouldn't you have had the sense to walk away camas, or has someone actually cleared that before you, just a thought

haha,oh ya great, i would have known by the second frame that im gonna come up short.
Looks like this guy wasn't sure, and decided to hold on to find out

dhbiker, the guy that did this before me ditched his bike and broke both ankles and heels because of it, I wouldn't wish the same fate upon you, and I had that on my mind all day. I knew I had to go as fast as possible to make it. None of you people know a thing about this hit, but continue to talk $%^&, so be my guest, come on over to Whitefish and give me a call, I will gladly lead you to this gap, and hopefully, when you short it, you'll be as lucky as I was. I knew I was shorting it before I even left the takeoff (so I popped it as hard as I could, which is why I endoed so early). And for all the people saying I needed to go faster, duh, but lets see you pedal any faster on flat ground, sinking in around 3 inches of loose gravel with 8 inches of suspension. I will never go near this again, I was very stupid to try it, but we all think we're great after our first trip to whistler. I'm amazed this picture has been in my profile for over a year, and yet it takes pod for you people to talk smack. To be honest, I feel sorry for everyone who's ever had pod before. So to iride89 up top, the day I see someone overshoot this, I will gladly give away my entire year's wages to their loved ones, because it will never happen.
Cause his front wheel is pointing down. He looks like he's heading straight into the back of the landing.
When you do a jump you travel in a smooth arc like a rainbow, your wheels are only flat at about the mid point of the jump. His wheels are almost flat in the 2nd frame which means that he's in a fairly large nose dive and isnt going to make it.
you can tell from the second frame because look at the direction hes looking he can tell he about to crashand you can see from there.

This is the craziest gap wreck I have seen yet. Holy mackarel man. You are a nutcase. You probably didn't clear it because you are weighed down way too much. By this I mean your balls which must weigh 25 lbs a piece.
Yea this dude has balls of steel. Though I think his bike might be OK since his weight went off it before he hit the ground. If you look at the shadow you'll see his wheel doesn't look too bad.

I don't think he is, but in the 1st and 2nd frame it looks like he's bump jumping off that pointy rock... which would be kinda nuts

Ouch! Hope you weren't badly hurt (looks like you took knees to the chest pretty hard). Props to photographer (and rider obviously), would've been such a nice shot if he made it.

my 4.0 gpa served me right too, wtf, if you seriously think this served me right, you must be the type that is bound to paralyze yourself by flipping over a curb, come on what happened to the comradery amongst mtn bikers?!?!

f*ck these stupid kids, dood. Way to shoot for a gnarly gap! Blind hit, sketchy run-in...didn't panic freeze and were able to get off the bike...I'd say you did alright!

Camas... was this on the ROAM edition Demo?
if so I'll bet I would be more sick of crashing that bike then coming up short myself...jk,
but I give you props for trying, and I hope both you and that bike got better.

Thats what you call coming up way short! you were never gonna make that...lol.. well done for trying tho, i cant knock that....
The jump maybe didn't come off as expected.....but you did pick a great looking setup....the rocks and background look great!
Damn, if I tried that it would have been worse, especially with the loose gravel and all, I recently smashed my face due to loose gravel, but I didnt bother to pack it, hope you healed up well, my knee is still in bad shape
