It's a shifting system that lets him shift down with the left thumb, and up with his right. It's kind of like a formula one car's paddle shifting.

I've always wondered why none of the major manufacturers have never done this (on a large scale, at least). It makes perfect sense, like paddle shifters in Formula 1 car.

i think they never did it because you would need extra cable length and that translates into more weight?
