great pic, loving the dust,, it has my vote for POD !!!!!
well i agree its a freaking nice shot, and there have been many DH drifting pods which are sick... i could see this being pod! the only thing i dislike is the ugly clouds.
very good picture. great timing and sick drift. definately deserves the pod.
anyone who says the clouds are ugly has no idea what they are talking about. without the clouds there would be much less texture and the clouds also provide contrast. without them there would be way too much blue sky in that corner of the picture.

yeah, it's actually really normal to use a flash in mid day... the sun is kinda behind him & his entire face would be in shadow if he didn't use a flash...
Great! So powerfull pic, so calm rider! Great timing and position of the rider, so sweet! The sky is also awesome
Reminds me of Fabien Barel, he never looks like he has enough weight over the front wheel and yet it never seems to push.
If there wasn't that much dust behind him he would look too relaxed to show he was going fast, a similar look as sam hill's. That is a great picture.
it almost looks photo shoped IN A GOOD way it looks cool
dont make fun of skinny arms i got skinny arms and i can ride like no tomorow

umm too everyone saying hes "drifting", hes just skidding his back tire into the turn completly slowing him down.. yes it makes a nice dust cloud but you never see it in a real dh race
uhg. shouldnt be pod. terrible form. elbows in? no fingers on frnt brake and middle finger to do the skid? thats not a drift. its a back wheel skid, like the ones 5 year olds do. sleeveless? come on. and sitting. atleast its a race course...

Most definitely contender for POD. Great colors, dust, and timing.
Props to the Rider and Camera Man.

[EDIT] infact i know there is one noob on every photo that does this but im gonna explain anyway.
i said it was over edited i know think its faked i use photoshop and my sister is a photographer so thngs like this just kinda stick out but look where the sun is coming from... okay so most of the sun is on his right shoulder?? he has a shadow on his chest from his bars???? okay so it could be a flash but it just doesnt look quite right the shadows and things to me it looks like the rider has been edited into there.
not saying its effinatly fake but TRY AND SEE MY POINT OF VEIW!
give me negative probs i dare you! :] but atleast see what i meen first!

What's wrong with using photoshop if it improves the picture quality? :\ meh.. still great pic right
besides photoshop is coooooool hehe
Aah...dude... plz shut up & don't prove ur ignorance, this is just really good flash work, don't try & take any credit away from an awesome photograph by a photographer that obviously knows what he's doing.
I agree about the shadows but if you sister is a photographer you should know that the flash isnt attached to the camera. The flash can be on a tripod off of the track to the right with the photographer taking the picture from a handheld camera from the front. You can then take pictures from different angles when the rider is in the path of the flash. Or it could just done by a computer student using photoshop.... either way I say nice picture... POD
"Or it could just done by a computer student using photoshop...." nah man, is def flash work, you couldn't get such good quality if u brightened in pshp... I use remote flashes all the time & there is no doubt in my mind that that's what's used here... sun from behind left & flash from the right & prob used a D70 to keep the detail in the sky & freeze the dirt with high sync speeds... not many camera's can sync fast enough with a flash... so is just a good pic by a guy who knows his equipment... maybe minor tweaks in pshp for added colour & contrast, but nothing major.
agreed, i shoot with a Nikon D300 and a Nikon D70s. those cam's give complete different results in situations like this one. I know this is not fake. Like Eric is saying, if you brighten dark parts up in Photoshop, the quality go's down. you'll get 'noise'in the pic on those parts. This pic also shows some noise at the grey cloud and the blue sky. guess he used an ISO of about 400 or more on a D70. the action doesnt have so much noise, and that's because of good lighting, the flash light overrules the noise a sort of speak. Most pictures are photoshopped by the way, just little things that dont change the truth of the picture is oke for me. Like sharpness, a bitt collor, etc. Nice picture!
haha, yeah, I have a D200 & a D70 & use the D70 in strong daylight & the D200 in the evenings or overcast days, is quite crazy how differently the 2 camera's are so different, but love 'em both
Don't think the ISO would be up to 400, reckon its on 200... would have to push the speed even past what the D70 can handle with syncing to expose a sunny day's sky & have the flash fire. The "noise" in the sky is prob just from the resizing & compression.

cool mate, use those cam's also that way, really appreciate that D70. You could be right, hard to say with such a small image haha
keep in touch!
Hey Purplepaint... Why on earth would someone use photoshop and stick a rider in doing a drift. I mean c'mon already... It not a 150 ft. gap!!!!! Like it's soooo hard to actually go out there and take a few pics of a drift.... Now using the proper lighting techniques and shutter is a different story, so props to the photographer and the rider for making it happen
look how calm the guy is. you would think in a drift he would hagve a little facial expression. but its hard to tell whether or nt its photoshopped.
Not really, I teach photography & this is not photoshopped any more than any pic u see in a mag. If u've never opened photoshop or used remote flashes, well yeah, how would you know what to look for?!?!
lol, people do take things a bit seriously sometimes don't they
Sweet pic, props to rider and photographer
Skid?, Drift?.... yah how could you tell?.... Can't really unless you saw the video. But I am sure someone will correct me... ;-)
Good quality and nice dust, but I still wonder why a drift is POD? There are many other POD deserving photos in pinkbike. Although, props for the photographer!

such a shit pod once again! anyone can do this all it is is made brighter and made look better bcos it is editted !!!
no, it's called knowing how to use a nice camera... a good typewriter doesn't wright a good book any more than a good camera takes a good shot.
^ ^ I couldnt agree with you more. everyone says my camera, a nikon D80, takes such amazing pictures in which it does, but its what im doing that makes the photos the way they are.
another question... did the photographer by any chance use a Cokin neutral gray filter? The sky looks similar to some photos i have shot using those filters.

Yeah man, ppl always say "Ooh, u must have a nice camera." ... I do, but I can give u my flashes & cam & all my lenses & u try get a shot even exposed correctly & in focus...nevermind the composition... not quite as easy as just point & shoot.
Not impossible, but if he used a D70 u can push ur speed up more than most cams & still have the flash fire, so that will give the sky that look too. Think he went for that option, coz think the filter would affect the lighting on the rider.

Braaaaap. It's the sound a 2 stroke dirtbike makes. It was a motocross reference dude, you just didn't get it. Braaaaaaaap on karlsanto!! This is probably the most moto POD ever. This dude puts a lot of motocrossers to shame with that drift. Respect on this picture, it couldn't be any nicer. Braaaaaaaaap.
I Usualy agree with recklessness, but i think this picture blows. Sorry. But without the dust cloud the guy would look like he was going slow, his posture and demeaner make him look lazy, i have trouble seeing this guy truly pinning it around that bend. The guy ruined a perfectly good shot simply by not looking badass enough.
DOUCHEBAG!!!
just about every photo is shopped in some way, this would be just enhancing the light, if at all.
such a useless comment, if you're not gonna say anything useful, just leave, hey?

Photoshop... NO SHIT Dumbass. It takes a good pic and makes it better. All pro photographers use post production techniques on their pics. It not like they added the dirt flying up or anything. Get an f-ing clue dude....

As much as I hate to say that this is a shit POD this is a shit POD. I hate downhill, skids and posers and this photo just happens to include all three of these.
Nah, that's ur opinion... the shot is good, u just don't like it... there is a big difference & if you hate to say it u can always shut up & keep it to urself... just a thought.
he looks to relaxed is the problem. everything else is perfect, he just doesnt look bothered or focused which takes an edge off the extremity of the picture
Oh guys shut up, its an insane pic and the quality is awesome+ i bet you couldnt get a better photo.
levers switch sides between countries, he's deffinetly holding the back. also, if you look closely, you'll see the cable from that lever runs down the frame. the lever not being pulled runs to the front disk

Hm, its a quality picture no doubt about that, but for me at least the pics of drifting a burm and kikcing up dust from a low POV have gotten a little old. Nothing against the rider for being able to do it, or the photographer for what is a good quality pic, for me the subject has been a bit...over done?
And before someone says "its b/c youre bmx" i love tons of the MTB shots whether its freeride, DH, slopestyle or whatever else. Just "drifting" pics have been played out alot i feel.
Congratz on POD though and i will say its at least to see another high quality pod regardless of what its of.

all it takes is a f*cking high definiton picture to be pod. "OMG NICE SCENERY!!!!!!!!!!" you could see this shitty quality and skip right past it. one work PHOTOSHOP
DUDE.. are you retarded?!?!
That's like saying... 'all it takes is a nice new red Ferrari "OMG NICE COLOUR & POWER!!!!" you could see an old red car & skip right past it.'
dumbass much?!?

the art of photoshop....pfft.
whatever happened to knowing how to take pictures? the problem with this pic is, even though it's legit, its fake. What i mean is that sure the kid on the bike hit the corner and a phto was snapped, but its been seriously doctored...Kinda like a boob job. Sure they look good, but someting just aint right and we know its fake. Thats the problem with this pic. the combined placement of the remote flash (which was poorly in a poorly selected location, giving two distinct set of shadows during a daytime shot) and the photoshop-job lead to a confused viewer.....thus rendering it as having a fake presentation. and really....whats the point of that?

i see where hes coming from, personally i think he posed more than a c stacked model for this shot.. i guess were just old fashioned for liking the real action shots. not sitting down with your finger on the lever obvioulsy ruining someones trail by skidding, but hey, just my two cents
Ur talking about the riding & I'm talking about the photography... I won't comment on the riding, coz I don't ride myself, but do agree that braking in the corners might make an interesting shot, but it will mess the trail up, so better to pin it I reckon.

"is it just me? or is he braking with his right middle finger only.."
yea hes flippin you off for asking such a dumb question

this is a sick pic. i know im gonna get hated for this but atleast part of this pic is fake. look at his arms where they meet the trees, the tones arent quite right, his eyes are looking STRAIGHT at the cam instead of where his front tire is fixing to go and his front tire is just floating on top of dirt? its not submerged at all in the dust, he cant be pedaling for it to be coming up cuz his foot isnt even on the pedal. the shadows that are on his right leg (the left one to us) are from the wrong angle for it to be the sun, as well as his arms. its too bright out for the flash of any camera to overpower the sunlight.....sorry but other than it being somewhat fake, its still made for a sweet pic
haha, have you ever shot with remote flashes?
& everyone saying that he's looking in the wrong place & looks too chilled... have you ever thought that he might have drifted around the corner 30 times before they got the shot they wanted?
"its too bright out for the flash of any camera to overpower the sunlight" Is that so?!? Where did u get this info?!? I often shoot straight into the sun with my flashes & it overpowers the sunlight quite easily if you know what ur doing, the trick is with the D70 & it's fast sync capabilities that allow you to control the ambient light much more than most cameras, so before you pass comments that you actually have no clue about to sound smart, just stop & think that u really don't have a clue what ur talking about & are just proving ur own ignorance.

Awesome pic! Well lit and great use of filters!? Looks kinda odd and superimposed, but I guess that just adds to it!! Nice
at first i thought it was completely fake, seeing as the color of the clouds suggest a darker, overcast sky, but if you look at the play of the light on the front of the rider, as well as the shadows positions, the photographer must have used an external flash for such even lighting, even tho it could have been off camera, like a strobe to the riders right, or sunlight, just depends, love the saturation on the sky, which doesn't look like it has any greens in it, i'm working to eliminate shitty skies, need a few filters tho, GREAT POD!!!!!!!!!

icedspartan lol, ya i hate POD's like these!!!!! there f*cking fake! look at the arms, they don't match the trees, its photoshoped! read FR photographer's comment. hes right. and ya WOW he can skid around a corner.... soooo cool. brakes are locked up, look at his finger.... not pod worthy
ohhh wow thats just like every freaking shot I've ever seen on pinkbike. wow no wonder why mountain biking gets no respect because there's no such progression
