Nope, what you can do is change the bike's geometry slightly. Make it more "race" by slackening the headangle and lowering the BB, or make it more "freeride" by steepening the headangle and raising the BB.

That's true, but this also slightly changes the rear wheel travel. The most "race" setting has also the shortest travel. But this won't adjust more then ~10mm I suppose.
