What is the purpose of a single ring on what is obviously a XC bike?

no, your obviously stupid because there is a fox 36 on the front of it. I don't know many people who run a 20mm axel and long travel on an XC bike. It's an all mountain bike.

And a single ring is nice, because it takes weight off and gives you low and high ratios all in one ring. If it were for an XC bike, you wouldn't necessarily run one ring but for AM it makes perfect sense.

You my friend obviously have no idea.

Read about the bike a bit more, having a high seat and a long reach stem doesnt mean squat.....

Well it's an AM bike, and I can't see any advantage of single ring, might as well run a granny aswell...

And some just can't be arsed with 3 rings, hence run that set up.
