if u r riding backwards, u dont have to pedal backwards

try rolling down a hill backwards some time, you will fall if you don't backpedal...

have you guys ever seen a Freecoaster on a BMX? its the same idea, just simpler. fakies take practice to learn either way. back pedalling or freecoasting. you dont have to backpedal to balance buddy

you have to backpedal to remain coasting backwards, if you stop pedaling you stop making it harder to balance end of story

stop making it easier*

a freecoaster is to help you not need to focus on pedalling backwards so you can do other stuff backwards eg halfcabs. its easy to balance if youve had enough practice

is there one to the left of the 1st gear also?

there might be a spacer there but it would never work if you had one on that side. the chain could never get back onto the rings

if it didn't work then he wouldn't use it...
