flag dirtjumpin (Oct 2, 2008 at 12:14)
bontrager isnt crap! if you have ever used their stuff you would know, and bontrager is treks in house company so ofcourse they are going to use their own stuff, makes sense and keeps cost down

flag matt-beer (Oct 2, 2008 at 12:40)
yet it retails for close to 7G. that ain't cheap by any means. plus it still has in house parts on it. buy something handmade for that much.

flag matt-beer (Oct 2, 2008 at 12:41)
...handmade (not in asia)

Totally agree with superspencer. Loose the bontrager and it'll be sick. but still not as sick as a v10.

flag z-man (Oct 2, 2008 at 14:11)
nah, wayy better then a v10... better ratios... custom shock stiffer and lighter... with wayyy way way better suspension technology... this is the best DH frame on the market IMO
TREK dialed it... they proved what the richest bicycle company on the planet is capable of!
  • + 8
flag fantaman (Oct 2, 2008 at 15:07)
Trek has the most money put into bike development in the bicycle industry, they make the best road bikes, the best AM bikes, best xc bikes and now it looks like the best DH bikes. The have a relation ship with 1 off the best suspension brand. What do you want more than that.

flag partyboy1122 (Oct 2, 2008 at 15:39) (Below Threshold) show comment
what I don't get though is how much it resembles the stab series. But of course Trek does a better job making it look good but I mean the 4 bar suspension design with no floating pivot or anything and how the seat tube bends to become the top tube. very similar, although no doubt this performs better than a stab. I don't know the geometry on this bike but I'm sure it's lower and more slacked out than a stab just from the picture.

flag stinkyrider95 (Oct 2, 2008 at 15:54)
I dont care what anybody says but to me this is the best race bike in the world and i cant wait till mine gets here there smoother lighter stronger and faster than a v10 or an m6 but it is just my opinion.
  • + 6
flag z-man (Oct 2, 2008 at 16:21)
party boy you're a f*cking IDIOT! this is NOTHING like a kona... does a kona have a pivot concentric to the rear axle? or a floating shock? how about a 1 piece mag link that's extremely still and light...
  • + 9
flag partyboy1122 (Oct 2, 2008 at 16:26)
i didn't say they were the same. I meant that they looked similar. 'looked' being the key word. I hadn't realized it had a floating shock until I looked at the other pictures in the article. No need to swear

It's still a Trek, and I would only touch one if I worked at a Trek dealer. Sure, it looks to be 1000x better than anything else they've done, but as a company they are 100% pure lameness.
  • + 7
flag z-man (Oct 30, 2008 at 12:40)
do you know what just came out of your mouth? TREK has won the last 8 tour de france tittles.. that alone proves they have the best resources when it comes to bikes on the planet!
  • - 6
flag thomasowen (Oct 30, 2008 at 12:58) (Below Threshold) show comment
No. It proves that they have the best resources to win in ROAD CYCLING which is why they win the tour de france. It proves nothing about being able to win DH.

flag JonahH1992 (Oct 31, 2008 at 5:47)
btw matt-beer it may be expensive over there but here its just under £4K thats a hell of a lot cheaper than say building up a nice yeti 303 an about the same as building up a santa cruz v10 an out of all the bikes for that price id have that one.

flag Rainey94 (Nov 10, 2008 at 13:22)
Fataman im sorry but trek does not make the best road bikes you just think they are great because lance armstrong rode for trek......... but as for this bike It looks great im not a big fan of trek but this looks great

flag fantaman (Nov 10, 2008 at 14:12)
if a bike wins so much mostly these day's most people call it the best but i don't care about road bikes. Some say the sundays,M6's and V10's are the best because they win world cups. But that's my opinion
  • + 2
flag viatch (Nov 11, 2008 at 15:41)
the "best" varies by how people feel about how the bike rides if they ever rode one and some people think how a bike looks like but most posers considers the most expensiv best, which is soooooo wrong.
  • + 1
flag KonaManDan (Nov 14, 2008 at 7:35)
Everyone who hates on bontrager bases it on no experience, simply because it says "Bontrager". If all the bontrager components had raceface logos no one would hate it. Bontrager makes solid stuff, brand whores.
  • + 1
flag fantaman (Nov 14, 2008 at 9:01)
yeah i agree with you and the new bontrager parts are super sick by the way,the bontrager cranks and brackets are mostly made by Truvativ, the handle bars are mostly made by Easton and the tires are not that bad either. The old wheels set are ligther than a set off mavic deemax.I love the pedals from bontrager that are on my Trek after 2 seasons they are still going strong with out any problems and maintanence.

flag fr3erid3r (Oct 3, 2008 at 0:54)
ya hes right actually. its not a single pivot but the way teh wheel moves, it basically is the same thing... just extra metal on there so its heavier and more pivots so more bearing and its weaker

flag fantaman (Oct 2, 2008 at 13:38)
it's a 100000000000x better than any kona shit bike out there, what a insult compairing a Kona to a Trek.
  • + 1
flag badbadleroybrown (Nov 13, 2008 at 12:36)
Yeah, its so totally different... Not even close the way it has exactly the same single pivot just behind the crank, or the way it has the pivot at the end of the stays exactly like a stab, or the way it has the vertically mounted shock in almost exactly the same spot as a stab, or the way the rockers are position at almost the exact same spot as on the stab, or the way the the frame itself is ovalized with the seat mount welded on after the main frame section... just like the stab. Yeah, you guys are right... not even close... In fact, if you look at them side by side, they're damn near identical.

Haters shouldnt hate just to hate... actually come up with a reason. How exactly does the suspension differ from a stab aside from the leverage ratio? Can either of you even answer that?... or is it just "Kona sucks" or some other dumbass fanboy statement...?

Can't deny it's a cool bike, but I hate trek. I work at a bike shop that's a trek dealer, and their prices are super high for the part spec's (i.e. bontrager), I mean for 7000 there should only be the best names on the parts. I'd rather have a GT Fury any day over the 88.

the frame is sweet, but who's to say the floating shox brings really sommething.... sorry but what's important is teh curve of the linkage, whatever the shox is fixed or not !
Plus the linkage between the seatstay to the chainstay, it's not more than a Horst Lik system, just the system has been turned around so they won't have to pay for the design.

It's a nice bike, but before saying it's the best dh bike, hum... that's a long shot. Come on, the last Morewood is pretty cool, the Nicolai are really fine, and you have plenty of brands having nice rigs too.

So the bike is cool, Bontrager product have less apeal than thomson

Awesome looking bike, but if I was to fork over that kind of money I'd rather just buy the frame and custom build it to get it how I liked it.

Fair enough it won the Rampage but I wouldn't go saying it is better than a World Cup proven race bike like a V10 just yet. Not saying it wont be, I'm just gonna wait and see what Fort Bill and Saint Anne do to her before calling it the holy grail.
