deffo going to be POd someday
i dont like this pod. Dark, grainy, hardly any detail. a dark picture can either look good or bad and this one looks pretty bad.
it's weird how people shit their pants over the ugliest pictures, but when something different and pretty nice looking (like this) comes along, it's all about calling it ugly and gay. you are the ones who are ugly and gay.
does it really matter, personlly it think its a nice piccy, but no ones forcing anybody to look at it, one day out of many having a picture that you may not like, really aint all that bad is it?

you people are idiots and you obviously have no clue on how much work went into the pic, props to the photographer and rider.
Almost the hole picture is under exposed... over half the subject mater is under exposed. when your subject is that small in your frame, you need to make it pop more, and under exposer does not pop in this picture. good idea, reshoot it and it would be a cool shot.
now you know someone is gonna say; Pod, and Shopped! dont you lad, anyway nice pic, very moody! well done.
Am I the only one who doesn't see anything in this picture? I can see a little part of the bike and a rider - thats all?!
that aint worth POD
too dark, not enough action...
just another pic in the dark with a remote flash...
Put some good PODs up like massive tricks, epic locations, big drops...
none of some guy riding down a track in the dark. without lights..

but still, the only reason this picture got POD is, color editing. If I under expose all my shots, turn them to B&W but leave the subject mater in color, My photo's will become POD, If thats what It has come to,I don't want POD, If that is what It comes to I would be offended if one of my images gets POD. James you are a good photographer, this one Is not worthy, he has much better images.
I didn't under expose this shot actually. This is how it was shot. The only editing was to make the background B&W.
I had 2 flashes for this shot, one on the side shot through an umbrella and one further behind to the right.
J-Peters, an image that combines both color and B&W is different for sure. People love it or hate it. But a lot of the times the monitor doesn't do the picture justice. Plus it has been compressed a lot to fit on Pinkbike.

Yes, you shot it Under exposed. I understand what editing went on, I was just giving a example.
If you had a fill flash on the left to show some detail on the left of the rider it would be different. but how you set your flashes up the right of the rider is lit, also It looks semi back lit but at that angle the back light is not shown.
I never said it was not different. "good idea, reshoot it and it would be a cool shot" is what I said.
I have looked at this image on two monitors, both of which were calibrated. I also understand that the image compression, But that Is the Image I am looking at.
This is my opinion, you can disagree with it, but a do know a touch about what I am saying.

I ride at night a lot once October comes along. For me this shot really captures what it feels like to ride at night. Maybe I need a better lighting system too??

photoshop can do really cool things to cool pictures but when applied to crappy pictures with crappy lighting you can barely tell what's goin on
nice... but face has been given to human, not to hide it... Where's look ? This is nearly the most important thing. And it has been eaten by mob shadows...

i reckon pinkbike get backhanded cash to put pics pod. they have been so lame lately, iv seen hundreds of better photos than this, none of them pod

I think its pretty sick, sick editing.. props dude

anyone who seems to think this is too dark needs to get a better monitor. the lighting is superb and colour editing adds awesome drama. very atmospheric.

I think it sucks. That's just my opinin though. I studyed photo taking and I've taken better pohtos of my diarrea
it's not photo taking, it's photography. Clearly you did not study "photo taking" since you don't even know what you are talking about. And you obviously missed out in your English classes too...
Seriously people!!!!! You all sound like a bunch of uneducated 12 year olds when you make comments like that. It's pathetic!

He's not right. He's left. And whatever. "Photo taking" or "photography" it doesnt matter - its still a bad pic. Just last night I took a photo of my dook with my camera phone and it's already ranked #1 on ratemypoo.com
And seriously James!!!! You should know by now that arguing with "uneducated 12 year olds" on the internet is a waste of time. I'm not 12 though so I guess that makes it okay.
Stop bullying me and enroll in a photo taking class (or better yet - come over to my bathroom and I'll teach you how to compose a lovely picture).

You are talking out of your ass, you call photography "Photo taking" the try to argue that you know how to shoot?
BTW there was no night riding, it was around 5:30 in the afternoon, just a rainy day in the trees. I really like it!

I wasn't riding in the dark, it was 5:30. try taking a photo in the trees and tell me how it works out. One of the flashes didn't fire, and the photo ended up looking pretty cool.
An advertisments for what, the color black?
Note: Black is actually a shade, not a color.....but it sounded better.
I won't knock the photo cause who am I to judge, but totally NOT POD worthy.

omg this is sooo gay.. I bet the photographer is french, and I hear the rider drives a Diesel Toyota... WTF sooo gay...
I heard he just put his foot on the pedals for a second, and wasn't even riding. WTF..

There are no rules in photography. Everyone complains about being too dark, no contrast, no color, etc. I think this is a great pic because it's different, and I love the lighting, and I love the small hints of color.. Really makes the rider pop without being completely blown out compared to the darkness. And to Shark555, sure anyone could do it. Anyone could take any of the pics for POD.
PS, anyone who said they can't see anything needs to straighten their monitor.
My 15 Cents worth.
