im pretty sure its 2:1 wich means that for every inch of stroke it gets two inches of travel. and the shock has a 5 inch stroke so it must have 10 inches of travel.

the chains on fine its the chain "guide" thats mounted wrong

Nah the guide looks fine, the chain is supposed to go on top of the bottom roller though instead of hanging several inches below it.
