My point is what was wrong with a normal derailleur setup?

Can get smashed off by rocks etc, so obviously this is more appropriate on a dh bike, but it was a school project thing so i just went down the easier route

I've never had a derailleur get "smashed off," even on a DH bike. The worst I've had is a bent derailleur hanger, which I promptly replaced.

Ask dave camp the same question, he made a dh bike - check littermag

seraph... if you've never snapped a rear mech off and you ride dh then you are not trying hard enough Razz it is a common problem... dont want to burst the bubble or out coz i know its just a school project but it wouldnt work on a DH bike because the chain would get stretched when the suspention compressed... (i would know i was stupid enough to make that mistake of thinking it would work single speed..)

You say that.. but Dave camp who came up with the idea built it into a dh bike. He just had the chain running along the swingarm with the outer sprocket on the end of the pivot, so it was like a brooklyn sorta deal if that makes sense?

And i dont mind, its a flawed design either way, the disadvantages outweigh the advantages, its just good to try new things either way Razz

Still, its in my garage now and it works!

What a stupid idea...

that'll just take your left kneecap off, or make you not able to turn..

Ah, at least look at the rest of the album before condeming the idea (yes theres more drawbacks than advantages to it, was just a college project for GCSE - got me an A*)

Look.. its not as you think it is http://www.pinkbike.com/video/73401/#top

It doesnt hit your leg whatsoever, the actual downtube done how it is - still thinner than a glory.
