Nice wheels. Man you need glasses for the snows glare, this should be POD
got my vote, beaut pic!! im gunna get neg props, but what is the + side of plastic rims?? i just want to know what the positives of them are..
there not plastic either i don't think, almost certain its carbon fiber. there pretty much industructable, and never need to be trued. down side is that they weigh a fair bit more then your usual wheelset.
like my grade 2 teacher says, "patan970, if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything"
Your rims would be screwed if you ever landed wrong. You wouldnt be able to tork the spokes to aline your wheel.
those wheels are made from a plastic composite that probably has carbon fiber in it..
but anywho, great shot, well deserved p.o.d.
but anywho, great shot, well deserved p.o.d.
I'm pretty sure there isn't any carbon fiber in them (they'd be lighter if there was)... they're built from a hardened plastic just like mag wheels from back in the day. The thing is, they're actually engineered... and engineered well, plus they're molded around the DT Swiss 440 hubs... so it's probably gotta be the most low-maintenance, care free wheel set on the market! They're pricey though.
dont give that gut neg props, he's right- the problem with those rims is once you buckle them they cannot be fixed as you can not aline them therefore you will have to buy a new wheel, thats why spokes are a better option as they can be maintenanced if u fuk up
now + prop him biatches
now + prop him biatches
sentenced2life - i think you missed the point a bit there. the wheels wont buckle because they are made from a composite material. they will most probably flex just a little bit in a situation where a normal metal rim would buckle.
Apparently the original mag wheels for bmx could be thrown in the freezer if they went out of true and they would straighten back out. Unfortunately the new ones don't have that feature.
mmmm wheels i never gave to true now that would save me alot of frustration lol theyre like 700 a set tho
OK all you people that dont know what what these wheels are. Check here
http://tagwheels.com/frx5.aspx
They are not mag wheels they are completely different. and they are not made from plastic: A high quality composite material with exceptional structural specifications was selected to provide the optimal balance between impact, stiffness and density properties

hahah holy crap people, sorry for being wrong about the wheel...geeez. That is pathetic you have to give me negative props just for being wrong. I didnt say anything stupid I just proposed a problem I thought that might occur.
did kovarik not run these years ago at fort bill 4x? or am i mistaken?
and yes they are indestructable but weigh a ton!
and yes they are indestructable but weigh a ton!
hobbnobs: its 'sore' not 'saw'. i guess it depends what bike theyre on whether they look good or not - personally I've never seen a set untill now. I guess theyre for the people who want functionality over aesthetics.
It dosent matter though becase the weight gives you more speed. in an ideal world the bikes would weigh nothing to through around but riders rather gain strength over the weight.....
top downhill racers don't ride indestructable wheels because they don't have to worry about buying new ones. They could ride a set of "all mountain rims" for all it matters, as long as they hold up through the race run it doesn't matter because they can get replaced right away with new ones. Granted, durability is an issue, but not as much to them as it is to the average, unsponsored rider.

how much are those wheels, if there as industructable and people say, there prbly a good investment, especially me, i dent wheels like i crack eggs
dualslalom -- is that just your generic comment to every picture that looks cool? --"major props to the rider..."
I think this one doesn't have much to do with his riding skills.

if ypu buckall the wheel put it in the frezzer and it strighens out that wot the old bmx mag wheels did ( have to have a big frezzer thow lol)

Bomb proof wheels. Heavy yes, but when going downhill you don't really see difference for example between TAGs and DeeMaxes.
they're about 1.5lbs heavier than a 'normal' wheelset (this if from someone i met, riding a set) and 1.5lbs, you hardly notice. anyway, you don't want super low weight for DH.
i've had an interesting experience with mag wheels, i had them on my ragleigh burner (Old School XD) anyway i was riding local downs and decided to ride down with out using my brakes (stupid i know), anyways i was going down and as i approached the end i saw a concrete well and well... boom! front wheel in peices, i flew and landed in stingers, bent forks, ruined tyre and tube, ha i couldn't walk for a few days
that ruined my burner
but any way i love those wheels!
but any way i love those wheels!
those wheels are really heavy, have super high rotational weight, and if you mess it up there is no way of truing it, they're dumb
oh, reducing your rotational weight by one pound is the equivalent of taking ten out of your frame, yeah...its a big diff, thats why tubeless is an added benefit

Cool shot, love it. Mag wheels are years old, we them back in the late 70's and in the 80's on our BMX bikes. Good to see them on mountain bikes.

Composite wheels like that are more aerodynamic then spokes too, thats why lots of road racers run Aerospokes, less wind resistence.
Sick pic!
Not sure if i could justify the extra weight of those wheels, but they do make the bike look even more tough!

nice pic!, but cant see the wheels bein anywhere near as strong as as alloy options. def makes the boke a head turner tho.
Those wheels are so f*cking cool. I'd love a set, but i bet you can't get them this side of the pond!

Tag rims are a type of resin, they weigh a ton.....Carbon fiber rims on a DH bike would probably crack.
almost bomb proof, but a normal wheel build I still think is better for the weight difference.

why are people just talking bout the wheels? wat he runs is his choice, just appriciate the picture!! its sick, good job guys, u dont see pics like that every day.

Wicked Photo, love it all except the rims haha. Those things are garbage, take those suckers into there air and they are like helicopter blades they try to pull your bike to lay horizontal. Yes they are near bombproof and never need trueing but they have so much pull turning you sideways, in my opinion they suck. and they are made of a polymer/carbon fiber mix i think (could be wrong its been awhile since i seen the specs book(they came to our shop asking to have a rider ride a set for the year and see how they were)).
LOL at those rims. . . Reminds me of 80's bmx era. . . makes zero since to put those on a freeride bike, but whatever to each his own i guess, i know i would break those rims within 5 minutes if they were on my bike
tbh i realy think you couldnt,
there not made of the same material as old bmx wheels, these are basicly indestuctable

TAG wheels. i have rode a bike with them are they arent supper heavey. super strong though. lifetime warranty with them
are those the wheels that if you buckle them you can put them in the freezer and they get strait again?

Nice POD, the wheels are sweet and they are low maitnence and dependable. I know a guy who had them and they were sick! His never buckled or got broken in all the time that he had them for
it really is all about how much your willing to spend
$$$$$$$$ Happy riding

WOW those are sick rims i wish i could winter ride but weather here its always raining and it turns snow into ice

I think this is fake... Why the tires are clean without snow?
If i am wrong sorry but is my opinion...
If i am wrong sorry but is my opinion...
If its cold enough the snow wont stick in the tyres that much. There is a little bit of snow in the tyres, in the middle, if you look it carefully, thats normal.

I find it funny how quick people forgot mag bmx wheels. People commenting on how they would break. Remember mags, you bent them, or cracked them, you put them in the oven, then freezer for a few days, and you have a perfectly true wheel.
Ahhh reminds me of the days when I got into bmx.

is the writeup on those wheels for anyone interested.
Supposedly un breakable. Just like the old mag wheels. weee. These aren't no hed carbon, or spinnergy road bike wheels. DH, FR, Dirt jumping etc.

Just say they are plastic, i had 5 spokes on a bmx as a kid and even if they do buckle u can throw them in the freezer and they unbuckle themselves
Smick shot btw.
Sorry guys, but these wheels ARE plastic. Granted they are composite, but the resin is a thermoplastic, embedded with glass fibers. So technically you could call them fiberglass too.
People think just because a part is plastic, or carbon fiber, or whatever, that it is automatically good or bad, heavy or light, or whatever. The fact is it's always dependent on the design and the manufacturing execution, particularly with composites, because there are so many different material systems that can appear the same and so many different manufacturing methods.

It's an awesome picture but i think the rims are hideous. If you case hard between the spokes there is no support for the rim and it'll probably snap.
i got oakly crowbars but not full mirriorback and special edition leopard print frames and nice pick too!

Last year i nearly brought this wheel rims called "Tag wheels" but i finds too expensive
like $1,400 cos of our f*cking import tax!
like $1,400 cos of our f*cking import tax!
so how much did u pay for the wheels... i hate spokes cuz i always have to true them and its a pain in the ass to do
With these rims, youll never break a spoke anymore
If you have a crooked wheel, you just need to put it in the refregirator and it'll become straight
My friend have rims like these on his bmx

Hey i want to few things.
1. Are these wheels strong enough to take beating for general offroading?
2. How light are these compared to Deetraks?
3. Do they make "GHWAAAA-WHAAAA" sound like disc wheels on a road bike?
4. How much these cost?
5. Are they made of carbon ?

2. 1000g heavier
3. wtf?
4. 620€ inc duty & cargo
5. no, from TAG website: "high impact modified, reinforced, composite material" no carbon at all
