Is the freehub body that soft, or are they just covering their azzes?

No, they are that soft, I had a some hub before(can't remember the brand), and when I went to take off the cog set, it wouldn't come off... So after a punch and hammer from the other side, it came off to reveal about a 2-3mm groove int the freehub body where the top 6(out of eight) cogs sat!!! After that, I only use XT cog sets with the aluminum carrier!

Mavic makes great rims but their hubs are another story.
