look at those eyes! awesome photo man!!
I think its some sort of timing thing, because all the riders have them. Probably works to trip the timers as they pass through the splits and finish.
boxxerman is right its a transponder that every rider has, it trips the timing gauges for split, start and finish timing. according to Steve Smiths mechanic.
It is. He could have saved a few miliseconds by putting it down a lil' more. And Props to the dhobbnobs for seiing he is not running continental tyres!
nickf - He more than likely rides brakes front on the right and rear on hte left like the majority of other British riders. So he actually has his finger on the rear but not on the front brake.
this is such an awesome photo
look at the determination
definatley needs to get POD

It doesn't say mcuh for Continental's DH tyres if their own sponsored riders choose to ride Maxxis tyres over theirs.
yeah, didn't bother to look at what brake the lever ran to. but it really hurts my feelings that people would negative prop me for such a human mistake
the athertons said that they were trying out different types of tyres for this season, well thats what dan said at fort bill
but i´ve seen several adverts from continental proudly presenting that the athertons riding their tyres, like Dingus said, it doesn´t say much for continental when they decide to ride maxxis...
loads of riders are sponsored by other tires and use maxxis? wow thats dumb why would a companie pay for people to travle the world and not rep there comany, rather rep someone elses companie so they get all the buisness,i wouldnt sponsor someone if they wouldnt use my product.
Konad: because they black out the maxxis logos. Its only when bike tarts like us examine tread patterns in pictures and work it out, to the rest of the world its a case of 'The Athertons run Continentals, and who's to say they don't? Im going to buy Continental because they are the best!'
haha ya forsure but if i was maxxis id point it out aha not like maxxis can get in toruble for syaing they all use are tires.
skawt-1, you could say that about anything, just like the forks he runs are not the same as you can buy in shops.
"The Saint wheels were laced up to some restickered DT Swiss rims. The front hub features angular contact bearings. The use of these bearings are seen in some frames (Knolly’s) to help alleviate side loads that cartridge bearings can’t absorb quite as well. The front hub also now accepts a “standard” centerlock rotor instead of the Saint oversized front centerlock. The hubs are available in jsut abouut every size you’d ever need ranging from 135mm (10mm or 12mm axle) spacing to 150mm. "- From Sicklines
There you go, f*ck everyone who neg propped me and Jamie, jammyboy366.

From what ive read it is a standard Saint wheelset with saint hubs but runs Mavic EX 325 rims, they obviously just restickered these to advertise that he's running a Saint wheelset.
Obviously they neg propped because they think we are talking BS apart from that I don't care about the prop system.
Rolto sicklines quite clearly says, and i even put it in bold for you, that they are running dt swiss rims

lol yeah props are dry
You can buy the wheelsets yourself hence what makes me think that theyre mavics, but whatever
Have you got the sicklines link?

they are saint rims/wheelset.. just because they re-stickered dt swiss rims earlier doesnt mean they changed their mind
the athertons ride for shimano asia or whatever the f*ck theyre based and all kinds of crazy/cool shit gets tested in there

The rims are restickered DT Swiss FR6.1D models. If you knew anything about rims that would be quite clear just from looking at them.
except theres a saint wheelset in the works and who better to the test them then the athertons? matt hunter is also running them
Well I'm sure there is a Saint wheelset in development, but odds are it won't have DT Swiss rims. Shimano makes their own proprietary rims for their wheel systems.
pahaha exactly. These don't look dissimilar from the s-type/mtx range rims from sun rims either :L doesn't mean they are! There are only so many different shapes that rims can be mate
Looks mean nothing in the world of rims. It's all about internal construction. Unless Shimano is intending to copy the structural design of the DT rims, then using these wheels as a "prototype" is moot.
how are these the same rims to the fr 6.1?
i think shimano have a big enough budget to create their on rims for testing and prototyping

haha seraph you've gone completely back on your word, just two hours ago you said "If you knew anything about rims that would be quite clear just from looking at them." so can you or can't you tell from looking at them which rims they are or not???
The rims in this picture are DT Swiss FR 6.1D rims. I knew this long before anyone ever linked to sicklines.com's description of the new Saint lineup.
To clarify: I'm not saying that Shimano's wheelset won't have a rim that is similar to the DT Swiss FR6.1D, I'm saying that, unless the internal construction is going to be exactly the same or very very similar, there is no point in riding these rims for "testing" purposes.
stryke, these rims are DT Swiss FR 6.1D, they are not made by Shimano. They even said in the article.

so because the saint groupset test bike had re-stickerd dt-swiss rims means all saint rims are now restickerd? this gee athertons bike bro..
I'm not your bro, stryke.
These are 6.1D rims, look at the outer walls on the 729s and then look at the walls on these rims, you'll see that they are concave on the 6.1Ds and convex on the 729s.

ok mate chill yourself. There's no reason to show yourself up as the next Baltimore Cop now is there???
didnt you just say you cant tell what a rim is from the looks?
what an earth? theyre the new saint wheelset and i dont really see why you're making a fuss, gee has been running them since SA

At the Nationals Gee was 100% running 729s, the mechanic even said, and there was a few wheels sitting about with the bloody sticker on! That was after this picture was taken as well, so stryke, babes, stfu.

i dunno about them being re-stickered because i seen a picture in mbuk of someone riding them it was in the freeride section
wellif some else happens to have them they may actually bee saint rims, i have seen a few peopleriding them now
People, or pros? Because there is no mention of them on Shimano's site or in any of my available distributors.
i dunno if there pros or not coz there just pictures doesnt say a name or anything, even if they are re-stickered. i still think shimano should make saint rims
looks like one of those speedo things that most roadies have look at his spokes next to his shoe theres another part to it
