Thought the driver 8 was freeride... It should have totems!

people make DH bikes out of FR bikes all the time. i would probably go for one of these instead of a V10 for DH anyway.

You can do freeride with dual crown forks.... Have you not seen any of the rampage footage?
On a slightly more positive note, I've sat on that bike, it's Peng....

I realise that... but the whole idea behind the driver 8 is that its completely freeride orientated separating it from the v10

This is from the Santa Cruz website....

"... it is also a very handy downhill
race bike, probably a better race choice for most riders who aren’t World Cup pros on most courses that aren’t World Cup
courses..."

So no, it's not completely FR orientated although yes, it is essentially a FR bike....

So there's no point to having stiffer, longer travel forks?
Besides, the whole point of freeride is that it isn't specifically designed, so a FR bike is perfectly allowed to blur the boundaries between FR and DH.

what is the problem... the bike can run a single crown or dual crown fork....jesus let people do what they want.... I mean I saw hard tail with dual crown. so pretty sure the driver 8 can handle dual crown.
