i think when water get in your forks and in your bottom bracket and in the bearing in your hubs and in your head set that it will probably rust or cauze some bearings to move out of alignment

flag robloveshiskona (Jul 4, 2009 at 12:29)
it would be fine, you would just have to re-grease every thing afterwards Smile & i don't see how it would move your bearings 'out of line' either, is that even possible?

i heard if you use a preasure washer to like wash your bike they are supposed to move

flag nickkkk (Jul 4, 2009 at 19:12)
oh and your bearings can rust to so that would also be bad just like you said you would have to re-grease everything

Rust isn't instantaneous, its a slow process. Get in and dry it + grease it early enough and the bike'll be fine. Pressure washers move bearings because of the great amount of force. Still water wouldn't do that.

Think about it nick, riding your bike in mud and gritty muck is far worse than a dunking in fresh water. The only time when water is bad is when you use a pressure washer and aim it right on bushings, seals and bearings. I have taken my TOP into the lake.

you can still get rust in places that you wouldn't have before if you wouldn't submerge it into a lake and water can seep into your forks as well if the seals are dry and old and you can ride your bike into a lake all you want but if i had a nice bike i wouldn't jump it into the lake because i treat the things i have and buy with great respect.

yo dont forget internal corrosion. almost all cromoly frames are rusted on the inside. submersion has nothing to do with it at all.

flag robloveshiskona (Dec 3, 2009 at 10:21)
water/oxygen + iron = rust. so water has every thing to do with your frame rusting, inside & out as water will get inside your frame..

flag dylaine (Dec 3, 2009 at 10:45)
My point was that even if you didnt huck into large bodies of water, your frame would still corrode from the elements.
