Bottom shock position is better for real dh riding.

lower position makes the head angle slacker, more stable at high speed, and in turn better hitting, lower bottom bracket(cornering), and jump more stable. Although it will not be as manueverable in the tight stuff. But if your racing you don't really need that as much as a stable right and better cornering.
