It's the most full on MTB race on the planet. 27km. Huge decents down fire roads, ice, snow, boulders, loose rock, dirt. Then a more classic downhill section. Then after 30 min or so of that when you have more leg & arm pump then you've ever had in your life it goes XC on your ass. So a DH bike doesn't really work. After the long climb you decent again. Through trails and finally through town.
It's a true test of the best all around rider in the world I believe. It might look like pure chaos but, look up a guy by the name of Rene Wildhaber. He's won this race like 6 or 7 times. And the years he doesn't he's on the podium.

here we see a herd of 'mountainbikers' in their natural habitat. nobody knows what compells this species to flock together in such a manner but we suspect it has something to do with finding some sort of ranking amongst themselves...

this is cool but kinda dumb because you would knock like an hour off your time starting at the front rather than the back. if you start at the back, you don't have a chance in hell of winning. still kewl pic though.
You have to qualify to get start positions, the better you ride the in the quali the close to the front you get
if someone photoshops a picture of that wheres wally dude in there that would be the coolest thing ever
i just watched a video of someone who put a cam on there bike. this looks like they already started, with so many bikes you can't ride your own bike for a while. It looks intense. PPl falling over, over the bars. I saw one guy just sliding with his bike down a snow hill. Someone who did the run, should start a thread about it. Love to hear info/stories.
