Actually it costs less and what do you lose a mech, shifter and chainguide who keeps em on anyway its meant too be a ss bike
this is the bike that riders wanted, it's build perfectly, first time in history Kona did really good job, really.
This bike has everything that you need for slopestyle and nothing that you don't, straight from the box can be used at slopestyle competition, what is far from perfect? Tell me. For that price it is PERFECT, and it is 100% slopestyle/ dirt bike, no marketing bullshit with gears, tensioners and ability to convert it to a f*cking fr/am bike that you probably wanted so much. Soo Good.
Well first of all what it doesn't have are strong rims, grippy tires, a decent fork, and the ability to run gears straight out of the box. Really, how many pros do you see riding slopestyle with a singlespeed? Please think about your arguments next time before you come at me with them. "No marketing bullshit with gears," what are you even talking about? How are gears "marketing bullshit?" Also, have you ever ridden a Bass or Cowan DS? If I remember correctly, my Cowan DS didn't really handle fr/am very well due to the fact that the geometry was designed for street/dirt.
Check out how many pros actually run single speed at slopestyle competitions. Out of tons of people, just a few. Single speed is lame on full suspensions. Less shit to break, okay... But I'd rather have the ability to change gear from course to course. Professional slopestyle riders run gears for a purpose. The Bass probably has a 2:1 ratio outta the box. Going down a hill and pedaling you would most likely top out, not have enough speed for the jump, and eat shit. So what are you going to do? Bring extra sprockets and cogs around with you everywhere you go or have gears, dialed in the right gear and be fine?
I run singlespeed on my wildcard, 32:14 gearing and it's perfect... and saves some weight. Never felt like I need gears so... gears as marketing bullshit- I meant that they make you buy them with bike so you have to pay for them.
You don't need grippy tires for slopestyle, you need light tires, decent fork? It's a DJ1, it's okay for the price, well, those rims are light and if laced well can do well. And I don't care what pros ride, because there is a very big variety of slopestyle bikes, I care what I prefer to ride on, not someone else.

First of all, Kenda Nevegals are not light tires by any means. Second of all, I'd rather have good grip in my tires than light weight, as tires are not the best place to save weight on a bike.
Yes you have to pay for gears when a bike comes with them, but you'll have to do the same to this bike to put gears back on it should you choose to do so. Why not just make the bike come with gears initially, and give the reverse option of removing them, like the previous models? I find it hard to believe that Kona couldn't produce a new build kit for the bike that cost less but still used gears, mostly considering the fact that they replaced almost every name brand component with their own in-house parts.

I dunno man all you say is mad true but like I think most Hard tail guys looking for a quick fully to throw together to go out west this is perfect. and also most guys I think would be better off with just getting the frame and nothing else, like all my parts would ride so sick on this bike I could save lots of money..
omg i wanted last years and i have the money i was goin to buy it and then when i went on the site it said like 2 hours till kona 2010 line up is out so i wated up and comperd to the the price difernce and evry thing im goin to hold of on the 09 bass raise the extra money and by this one i like the single speed
bomerman, what i would do is buy the 09 model and if you still wanted a singlespeed then you could do it yourself (it wouldnt cost that much)
new marzo DJ forks actually look alright, lets hope this year isn't going to be a disappointment with their DJ forks for the 3rd year running!

if its so good, why do we have so many of your dicks taking over our jobs?
i think its cuz your economy is pretty shite!
i think its cuz your economy is pretty shite!
Stop being racist, okay? It's because people in your country are lazy and not so effective at work, so why not come there and make some use of that fact.
Off topic tho...
haha!! lazy! we cant work cuz your dam people are taking over our jobs, then with the money you guys make, you take back to your country meaning that our countries eccomomy is going down because all our money is getting taking to other countries!
Well, we have a lot better education here + we are probably more efficient, thats why we can easily find work there and native people can't, because they can't compare, for example: I've heard many stories from friends who worked is Wales that your engineers suck so much; my friends had no problem with getting job, people in Wales are often like: "WOW, when did he learn that?!" And it's not so great working and living in a foreign country far away from home, so be glad that at least you have better builders, engineers etc.
guitarman29 what is this kind of dragon style flag u use? is this some kind end of a world island on pacific ocean or some kind of dino stories? it is so funny that u use any symbols of lost ages when now ruled by the city. buhahahahaha
and if u want to come and feel a fist of new masters of this world come to homeland of the really rude boys.
cu u on the track english puppy boy.
