No its not fake it was on mtbr while ago, he was leading through a bunch of rocky trails and there was a branch sticking out. Lesson learned... wear shin armor

Actually, the article on MTBR stated that he was in the middle of a group of road bikers, on a road bike, when one of the front riders hit the stick, which tossed it up and through his leg.
