why a half link?

The frame doesn't have adjustable dropouts and with the half link I don't have to take up very much slack compared to a conventional chain...

don't you need gears for 4x bikes? thats usually the rule around here i believe.

Not for the indoor series we have out here. You have to have 2 of 3 things; 26" wheels, gears, or suspension.
