dropping weight everywhere, spokes, brakes, and oh yeah a chain lol

LOL! That was day 1, we hadn't had time to put the chain on before we were assaulted by everyone!

flag oneghost (Oct 20, 2009 at 10:44)
Tanto was made for 4X/Slalom racing or dirt jumping

flag DolphinGiver (Oct 20, 2009 at 14:12)
Tanto is a short japanese blade, similar to a dagger. As far as I can tell one ghost is basing most of their names off feudal japanese weapons, which is sweet. And the tanto is by FAR at the top of my to-get-list.

flag oneghost (Oct 20, 2009 at 15:01)
The soul of the samurai is in every bike (we actually put the samurai code of honor on every bike). I am a Bushido myself and the company is named after my dog Ghost who was named after the samurai myth of the Ghost Dog who is the spiritual protector of the samurai.

So yeah.. we have the Tanto, Wakizashi, Katana, Longbow and soon Musashi (after the greatest swordsman who ever lived) and the Genken which is the Japanese name for war dog. Not all of our bikes will be named for Samurai weapons or themes however. We have the MDC (Morrow Dirt Club) our 29er "Klunker" frame, our Proletariat commuter frame and the Malcolm(C)X our soon to be Cyclocross/aggressive commuter frame

So what features makes this better than say, a yeti DJ?
  • + 5
flag oneghost (Oct 20, 2009 at 13:20)
In our humble opinions here at One Ghost Industries...stronger, stiffer frame, better geometry for slalom/4X racing, more adjustable wheelbase/c-stay, direct post mount brakes, lower stand over, built in bottle opener, no single sped dropout "upgrade" needed, ability to run just about any fork you want, full 1.5 head tube (for any fork/headset combination and maximum weld strength), stainless steel 12mm x 135 through axle.
  • + 4
flag Phil-rides-a-bike (Oct 20, 2009 at 13:51)
and Yeti DJ's are one of the worst built bikes for dirt jump out. They seem more built for racing than dirt jumping and way too big. this bike looks much nicer!

Those wheels seem to contradict the notion that the rotating wieght should be as close to the centre as possible - unless the rims are ridiculously light
  • + 1
flag mishracer (Oct 20, 2009 at 3:26)
the front wheel is about 950grams and the back about 1100 grams so they are disgustingly light wheels. i want some but £700 for the set....?

thats quit heavy considering theyres practically no spokes :S
  • + 1
flag mishracer (Oct 20, 2009 at 10:06)
Yer i suppose. Personaly i do not like the way they look with that few spokes. its a kwl bike though.
  • + 2
flag NorCalNomad (Oct 20, 2009 at 20:44)
wow are they really that heavy? I'm pretty sure that you could build CK hubs to 819 that would be stronger, proven, cheaper, and I'm pretty sure that they don't have 72 points of engagement so also that.
  • + 2
flag ctd07 (Oct 21, 2009 at 8:19)
my wheels pro2/DT/Sun EQ29 weigh less than that and cost 1/3rd the price - lol, mega fail on Crankbrothers part considering those wheels probably aren't even as stiff or strong and cost a fortune to repair when they bend!Thumbs Down
  • + 1
flag liveless (Oct 21, 2009 at 17:44)
Thats what i ment... You can get "better" wheelset for less bucks.

  • + 2
flag browner (Oct 22, 2009 at 15:43)
In conclusion then, the wheels aren't the lightest AND the weight is exactly where you don't want it. On the other hand they do at least look stupid so they aren't trying to masquerade as something there not.

flag oneghost (Oct 20, 2009 at 10:47)
Frames are sold for $679.99 raw finish. Custom powder coat finishes and decals are available for an extra $150 or so. You can order them direct from One Ghost Industries, We are taking deposits now for them.
  • + 2
flag NorCalNomad (Oct 20, 2009 at 18:03)
For 680 it better be sub 4.5 lbs.
  • + 0
flag oneghost (Oct 20, 2009 at 18:19)
why would you want a sub 4.5 lb slalom/4X frame? you want to break it?
  • + 3
flag NorCalNomad (Oct 20, 2009 at 20:37)
For weight, I do hope it's at least sub 5lbs. The Commencal VIP 4x one is 4.2 lbs, you have the blander ti at 3.4 lbs, Banshee Amp 4.4lbs, the Yeti dj is 5lbs but can still take an incredible beating, and has amazing race geo, the Santa Cruz Chameleon as a large is 4.6lbs (that bike can handle everything, and ride it well), and the one of the best all around dj/4x frames out there the Specialized P3 4.6lbs.

And I'm pretty sure every frame I just mentioned is under 680, except the blender ti.

5.1 lbs with rear dropout kit and stainless steel axle. Complete bike as seen on our web site (the long, black one with the 36 TALAS, SLX/King hubs/DT 5.1D rims and 2-ply tires weighed in at 28 lbs

one other thing. Whats the rear tire clearance like? whats the biggest tire you can fit?
  • + 1
flag oneghost (Oct 21, 2009 at 16:32)
Looks like about $410 GBP and you can run a 2.35-ish depending on the tire. probably fit a 2.5 Maxxis in it (we don't run Maxxis up here, not a fan at all of them for many reasons) but 2.35 2-ply Intense tires fit with tons of room

Interesting downtube design. I really like the fact that the rear is a thru-axel and (from this picture) looks like drop outs are adjustable too. It might just be the picture, but it looks like the bottom bracket it quite low... look that way to anyone else? Overall I've been impressed with the one ghost products in the past, and this is no exception!
  • + 1
flag oneghost (Oct 21, 2009 at 16:34)
yes you are correct. the dropouts have 1.7" of adjustability to them, the DT is hydroformed hexagonal shaped and the BB is very low (designed for dual slalom and 4X races so it corners like a scared cat. All of our bikes use low BB and short c-stay/wheelbases).

ha ha, its a total design rip-off of the old Orange MsIsle or the new Miii and I'd stake my life on the Orange being better!- It seems to be the way with a lot of this 'boutique' new brands that the only nice thing about the frames is the paint work
  • + 2
flag oneghost (Oct 21, 2009 at 16:38)
doesn't look anything like it, way different. the DT on the Orange is even larger than ours. Orange probably uses the same tube supplier we do, besides, it IS a crazy strong tube.
  • + 2
flag ctd07 (Oct 22, 2009 at 2:35)
Orange use sheet metal and fold it, plus I just realised yours has double top-tubes and Hz d/o's, my bad! I checked out some of the larger pics on your profile and this pic actually doesn't do the frame justice, its got some nice features!tup - my apologies!

Frames are available in any color and you can put whatever you want on tit as far as parts. We will have 4 different complete bikes available too soon. Still working on color options for them all. Each will be different with a different spec to them including one DJ specific model with only a rear brake and one gear.
