to be fair the amount of force thats gone in to that frame to cause that woulda buggered an aluminium frame just as much! the carbon just looks for more spectacular when it breaks

not exactly, composites have high tensile strengths, although they don't handle fatigue and cyclic stress as well as metals and metal alloys, composites have an unmeasurable yield point since they don't have much elastic deformation or plastic deformation, its sorta they get to their yield point and fail without warning, wear as aluminum and metals handle fatigue better since they have higher yield points and can deform elastically more then composites. so if it were aluminum its probable that it wouldn't have even cracked since it would have a chance to flex and give away that energy. the composite retains that energy and releases it in a destructive manner.

thats true, but aluminium would still have been damaged so bent or cracked albeit probably repairable compared to the carbon mess we have above in said pic
