steveissilly (19 hours ago) looks a bit photoshoped because the broken bottom part is too long for the wheel to be 26', as the wheel is already quite near to the crwn of the fork, must have been a pritty hard hit though...
Mavic is proud of shaving around 300g off the 2008 DeeMax's, it looks to me they gain that result mainly by CNC'ing the rim in-between the spoke holes. Well, here is the proof it just does not work. If you wand a rock solid DH wheelset you are most likely to look around min. 2500g per pair, with wider rims at min. 600g. I have seen many pictures with broken DeeMax's and DT 3250's (which use EX500/EX 5.1D rims) - these are good for sponsored pros and I would not buy them for DH myself, maybe for AM/light FR if I can afford it.
My perfect, lightweigt wheelset for DH would be Hope Pro 2 hubs on DT EX600/FR 6.1D or Mavic EX721 - these will only weight at around 2200-2300g depending of spokes/nipples you will use.
this is a load ov mavic hatters on here every time i say someting they say all the same things im 18 stone and done a couple ov over 6 foot drop offs and wheels are still ok if that picky true how ever he done that any wheel would have done the same thing
every rim will break just cause a deemax broke doesn't mean not to buy them. doesnt matter what wheel he had on when he crashed it would have ended up like this ir far worse...

you see all these pics of f*cked bikes, like this one, and sam hills at fort bill last year. if i crashed so hard that my bike did that, i dont think i would be getting up! last summer after falling 14ft onto myshoulder and shattering my shoulder. bike was fine. dont understand. haha

lol that was dumb .. count the spokes its not photoshoped .. if you bother to photoshop it surely you would bother to get the right amount of spokes .. :L
