lol my mongoose's seatpost is the same. I do it to get the seat angle right. He'll be doing the same thing - it's different, not backwards!
Or mabye his frame is a bit big so he has the seat right forward to let him sit on it.

Perhaps where he rides is really steep ,so he has the seat right forward t get over the backend easier ?
