I have the utmost respect for any man or woman who joins the military of their own free will to fight to defend the lives of people who in some cases hate their military. that takes balls. my brother is a combat medic, and next spring, I'm shipping out to boot camp. I cant stand the idea of being one of the civilians cheering on the heroes from the safety of my couch. the fact that bikes are sometimes allowed on base might just make deployment bearable!

The war in Irak and Afghanistan have little to do with bringing peace to that area. The US economy was not growing at a point that they had to search for new means to make a buck or two (knowing that the financial system will collapse anytime soon they are trying desperate to save it by any means)

I totally respect the loyal soldiers that give their lives for peace and security for people that have non. But the true reasons of this war are a bit different, they are risking their lives in a filty game of power and money. It has yet to be proven that the war in Irak and Afghanistan have brought peace and stability to that area.

In Afghanistan, since the United States Army is there, the Opium production went up big time, especially in 2007 (Opium is what is used to make the drug Herione) The funny thing is, the Afghan people don't make a lot of money on this, but the most influential politicians and international relations do. It doesn't need a smart guy to know that the United States is making most of this money.

It is believed, and their are hard facts, that the Taliban wanted to ban all Opium production from Afghanistan in 2000 while their Opium production was only 10procent of the world wide production, in 2001 the US went in there and by 2005 90procent of all the Opium came from Afghanistan. Most of the biggest Opium dealers are now top officials in Karzai's (Afghan) government.

Do your own math on who has got the power in that area...

Opium kills over 100.000 people each year, mostly in Europe and Russia.

People are loosing their houses and everything because some people in the government discided that everyone should lend more money in order to keep the economie running. I joined the Army to serve my country, to defend us from acts of terror. I have charged down enemy fire and along with my fellow soldiers saved countless civilian lives. If you had seen some of the things I have you would withdraw your pathetic comment, the one you post from the safety of your nice warm house sat behind your computer. I have served alongside many fine American, Canadian, Australian, Dutch and Afghan troops, every one of them a hero, every one of them braver than you'll ever be! The soldiers, from all countries are hero's in every way. I believe they have also fallen victim aswell. They did something they believed in and they trusted their governments.

Sadly, most of these governments have a double agenda and are never to be trusted for a full 100procent, we need to be critical and we most of all need to open up governments like Wikileaks . org is doing right now.

The banks chose to give out loans for practically nothing, then when no one could pay of the loans (mortgages) the banks needed bailing out cause there was no money beacuse no one could pay off the loans. The only mistake the government made, and it was a mistake, no one is trying to destroy america, was that they let FM give loans for nothing. We need a new president now to fix everything, not Obama who just throws money at problems and keeps printing and printing.

Rules could also say "no politics", but do you think that everyone is able to resist? Politics is a topic you just want to talk about, doesn't matter how f*cked up you find our current politics. You just want your opinion to be heard.

It's good to see people talk about politics and let other come to realize the sad truth behind current wars. I totally agree with r4p1s7(not because I'm Bulgarian as well(live in holland) ), katinasd and all the other guys. But don't do it like r4p1s7 does it. Sorry, but's that's actuall not a fact. Only 18% goes to the military, which is a HUGE difference--and that includes military humanitarian support around the world. Over 55% of the U.S. budget goes to Social Security (gov't-backed retirement security for everyone), Medicare, and Welfare/Unemployment. It's easy to call it a waste when you don't bother to think about the consequences of NOT spending the money to support and maintain our military.

Dear jakeheath you are very blind! In most of the "weird ass countries" as you named bulgaria and probably my country to which is Romania(we are neighbors) the english class and german or france class is obligatory at the school and at the university to. Another thing. I live in Transilvania which was part of Hungary before the second world war so my spoken language is hungarian, but obligatory we have to learn romance from the first class because you have to speak the languge of the country were you live. So I can speak hungarian perfectly, romance very good, english pretty well and a bit german to. Btw. tomorrow i was in Bukarest to make an english exam named "Lingva" which will be available for only two years and it costed to me a lot because it was about 40 pound which is a lot of money considering that cause my father makes only 80 pound/mounth. But luckily I dont have to ask money from my parents because i have fellowship which is again only about 30 pound but I have collected to make this exam for myself and I plan to make another exam in the near future TOEFL or Cambrige which validity will be lifetime.
