This is a well made tandem, but any real DH fan will just see this as blasphemas, unless they've both been in terminal crashes,it makes no sense to render 2 awesome DH bikes useless,i.e strengthening bar between cranks, extra shock mount on underside of downtube on rear bike. They could have used da-bombs just soften the blow for the v10 fan.

If a reputable company like Santa Cruz, who pride themselves on good bike design, wanted to make a full suspension tandem, they'd make one. They wouldn't weld two v10's together, they would just design one from scratch, it would be a piece of piss for expert bike makers like Santa Cruz to design and make a full suss tandem.
And i've seen salt and pepper pots made out of Chris King hub bodies, actually by Chris King, though i don't know whether you can buy them, but i know UK trials rider Danny Holroyd as a set,cos i seen them in an MBUK article on him,and i've seen them in MBUK anyway,it would be easy to find out online somewhere, but thats what i think & know.

I don't know why everyone think this is stupid. I think it's awesome, in a red-neck, jack-ass way. I can't wait to see the sport of tandem DH on the WC Circuit. Bitchin! The only thing that would kind of suck would be sitting in the back seat on this one, with the ass of the guy in front perched squarely in your face.

flag thegringo (Jan 14, 2010 at 13:13)
Not to mention going down a steep technical decsent, and being on the back seat while going over the bars, the front rider would be at normal bike height, but the poor twat on the back wouldn't,and from a situation like that the rider on the back could in fact get killed, depending how steep the decline.I'd rather just have a v10.

To everyone who said that Santa Cruz make a yearly joke like bike,i apologise for any questioning i gave ya's,cos to date i've collected 4 photo's of Santa Cruz's,what look to be made as jokes by Santa Cruz,a Jackal,a Nomad, and of course this tandem, and i can't remember the last one.
So it does indeed look like Santa Cruz make a funny bike yearly.

Question.. I may get neg prop bombed for this..
Is there a point to the "mid" shock other than holding the frame together... I wouldnt work would it?
  • + 2
flag thegringo (Jan 14, 2010 at 17:54)
No it wouldn't work Arayner, cos my thinking is that it's a spare shock for when and if something happens to the working shock, this looks like a tandem that gets some use, hence the trailer attached to the back dropouts, plus the tyres and cranks look like they get ridden frequently,so to try and answer ya initial question,i think it's a spare shock on account of the working shock carrying double the weight,it'll need attending to from time to time,so when it,s getting seen to,the spare can be used, cos i think you'll agree this is deffo a working tandem,i.e gets plenty of mileage.I hope i have shed some light on your first impressions, cos mine were the same as yours when i first saw it.
Good to talk with ya Arayner, hope i've helped ,if not slag me off as much as ya like.ha-halollol

Isn't this one of Santa Cruz's "stupid bikes" that they make each year?
  • + 1
flag thegringo (Jan 14, 2010 at 20:00)
I'm learning everyday of my life,i didn't know Santa Cruz did such a thing, hence the reason why i haven't pretended to know it all and say anything for deffo, but if Santa Cruz make a stupid bike every year then maybe they made it as some kind of joke, cos after all said and done, picture where the back riders head would be a lot of the time, and where the front riders arse will be most of the time, when ya take that into account maybe they did make it for a stupid joke,i don't know, i can only summise with each comment at this point.
I might go on the Santa Cruz site and see if i can clear it up once and for all cos your not the first person to say Santa Cruz made it and i'd like to know now.

yeah i'm pretty sure once i saw a Santa Cruz, in a picture thats was like 2 front ends welded together, and it had one set of forks at each end, the one at the rear had no bars and the forks were fixed, but i agree this bike is pointless apart from some comic value

Okay i'll accept that, simply cos i've heard a few people say they build a weird bike like this every year,i just find it unusual that i've never seen a pic of it in my Decline mags,Dirt mags, and MBUK mags which i get monthly, but i'll believe ya until the next comment comes along saying something just as mental, regards.
