you gotta use you imagination to make this POD. pretend there are alligators or something hes jumping over or else he dies. that's epic and deserves POD.
its been said before and im sure itll be said again, its PICTURE of the day not rider/trick/bike of the day. Im so sick of people saying that they hate the picture because someones not doing a triple backflip off of a curb. If you dont like it im sure you can wait another day for another picture. Great shot by the way keep up the good work
I like the shot. I dunno what all you guys are on haha. Its simple, clean, crisp, pretty nicely composed, got some roost and some manny out of a sick berm. I am a photographer and I know a good photo when I see one, and unlike usual I opened up pinkbike glanced at pod and thought "sick shot". My two cents. And to people hatin on the rider, GROW UP. Your acting like children, but some of you are hahaha
I like this photo because of its simplicity and clarity. It doesn't try to overwhelm you with crazy colors or fisheye lens trickery... just a nice photo of a good rider with great depth of field! Love it.
wow, the look on the riders face matches the boredom of the photo itself. and yet on the homepage PB is patting itself on the back for having 5 million photos on it. and this is the POD. the photog timed it well, and its crisp no doubt. but, the composition is uninspired, the point of view is unimaginative, no background worth looking at...wow. very poor choice. unbelievably.
dude, idk if you realize but the place where the picture is taken HAS no background and i think that both iggz and j peters are killing it working with what they had. if you want to go be a bitch about it go take your own kickass pictures and quit crying over this one.
That's the whole object of photography, to make something out of nothing. Is it not? I am a filmer, and I know enough about it to analyse a photo and tell whether it's good or bad, infact anyone can. This photo is just plain boring, no other way to put it!
obee1: I saw the thumbnail and thought, hmm, this has potential. Upon looking at the large photo, the first thing I noticed was how odd his facial expression was. Yet, we all make effed up faces when we ride, or we're trying a trick.
I think it could have been improved if the rider was proportioned to the scenery/berm a little better. There's not enough space between the helmet and the top of the pic. The watermark is distraction city.
Random thought about the photo: The roost looks like something you would see off a dirt bike, but 90 times less. Similar trajectory. Braaap!!
Gcaprider, I think that was about the only truly constructive crit. this photo has got today. though I disagree about the watermark, my eye goes there last. With over 200 favs and 4000 views before it got POD. This photo was well liked, its hard to argue with those numbers.
it's interesting that we've directed this towards a critique of the photo. which i would like to extend myself from my initial post- which was a visceral response to the photo. decidedly different. the first thing that i identify with this photo is the point of view. it presents itself as being taken from a typical standing position downhill from the rider. in an action shot such as this i would endeavour to extend the speed or idea of it, by taking the shot from an angle that serves to show the speed and effort of the rider. but, due to the composition itself, the viewer is left to their own to observe the negative space and the lack of anything depth related or scenery related worthy of keeping or attention, or inspiring in that regard as well. To simply have something in the foreground at least would give us three stages of depth. The lighting within the scene is another non factor when it could do so much to influence the feeling within the shot. Oh well. the berm serves to cut the composition in half, and as a line of direction in the picture, does nothing to promote the idea of speed, or direct our eye toward a desired point within the picture. A flat horizontal line is just that. Flat. I’d like to compliment you on the clarity of the photo, and your sense of timing is certainly showing well in the work, so that is a great foundation to work from. If i was evaluating your work i would challenge you to return to the location and consider how you could compose the scene to do more to “tell a story” within the picture, or at least capture a similar image from a unique point of view so as to appeal to the action that is going on within experience. Hopefully this might do better to communicate my thoughts then my initial -yet honest- response.
j-peters: So many people can jump to saying what they don't like about something, but few can suggest tips or suggestions. You can tell a lot about a person through a simple comment.
Thanks to obee1 for keeping the critique concise and constructive. As to everyone yapping about "getting off of Iggz's tip" as you said, this is what's called reciprosity. Considering all of the drama that guy has stirred on this site in the forums, I think he was due for a little ribbing of his own. That said, everyone keep it clean and respectful or your comments go bye-bye.
I like this shot. It's well composed, well timed and nice and crisp. All the haters might as well wipe their pussies and stop complaining because there's jack shit you can do about it.
yep he lifted his handle bars up while leaving a berm. maybe pulling a face like that makes it abit harder but still anyone on a halfords bike could do this. not pod worthy.
Is it really a POD? I don't understand why, that's a good and clear picture, yes, and after? Nothing enough impressive to become POD I think. Just a good riding picture.
yea ok.. look, it looks like hes gonna fall right over. And if he didnt fall he had to of put his foot down to catch his balence or to stop from bifing it
